A short-haired woman and a man in a blue shirt inspect a black frame bag and a package of straps.

You run a store, adult creator shop or marketplace feed that receives product notes and needs clean records at volume. GLM 5.3 Flash offers $0.1275 per million uncached input tokens, $0.0255 cached and $0.425 output, a 1,048,576-token input window and JSON object output. It accepts text, images and uploaded video. For catalogue imports, the important check is whether each identifier, measurement and missing value agrees with the approved source—not simply whether the reply parses as JSON.

Settings that matter for extraction

SettingUse for extractionWhy
reasoning_effortlow (high, max exist; default is max)Bounded copy-and-structure work does not need max, and reasoning tokens are billed as output. medium is rejected.
temperature0The reply is parsed by code. The vendor's general default is 1.
response_format{"type":"json_object"}Name every key in the system message; JSON mode does not enforce a schema.
max_tokensDefault 32,768, maximum 131,072. Leave headroom above the answer for reasoning.A cut-off reply is unusable.
stopLeave outOne sequence is allowed, but it can fire during reasoning and leave no visible answer.
toolsNot needed hereUp to 128 function tools are accepted; every fact is already in the prompt.
MessagesText, image_url and uploaded video_url; at most 256 messagesVideo is limited to 14 MB per request. Audio and PDF/file parts are unsupported.

seed and parallel_tool_calls are not accepted on this route. For seed or parallel_tool_calls, use full-size GLM 5.3; see GLM 5.2 vs 5.3.

The tutorial uses approved text so the dimensions and sale quantity can be checked exactly.

At these rates, the assumed token usage gives:

  • One larger record: 10,000 uncached input plus 2,000 output tokens costs $0.002125; 1,000 such requests cost $2.125.
  • With a cache hit: if 6,000 of those input tokens are cached, that request costs $0.001513.
  • A smaller batch: 100 records at 1,500 input and 300 output tokens each cost $0.031875, about $0.032.

Use returned usage to replace those assumptions. Repeated context and tool follow-ups add input on each turn; track uncached, cached and output tokens per completed record.

Give each record a source and keep missing values missing

The fixture is one fictional frame bag. Its identifiers, units and sale quantity can be checked exactly. The same pattern works for non-graphic wardrobe or accessory listings.

text
S1: FB-320 Coast Frame Bag. Length 320 mm. Capacity 4.5 L.
Sold as one bag. Colour and weight are not specified.

When a measurement is absent, the record gets null. Repeating the request cannot discover a missing weight, and a retry loop only buys more attempts at inventing one.

A black frame bag and loose straps sit beside a separate transparent package containing two folded straps.

Illustration: the bag and separately packaged straps are distinct products. This is not a GLM image-reading result; the example route receives the text specification. A sentence about "two straps" may describe another SKU, so keep strap packs out of the bag's record.

Variants need the same discipline. A blue FB-320 is a separate row from the black one, and colour or weight must not be copied from the neighbouring row unless the source says they are shared.

Black and blue frame bags rest in separate wooden trays while a woman adjusts a strap on the blue bag.

Two variants, one record each: colour or weight is never copied from the neighbouring row.

Try it in Playground first

  1. Open GLM 5.3 Flash and switch to Playground.
  2. Put the SYSTEM text from the script below in System prompt, paste the S1 bag specification as the message and set reasoning to Low.
  3. Check 320 mm, 4.5 L and one bag, with unknown colour and weight left empty.

A client that streams and validates before import

Create an API key in the console, install the compatible client with python3 -m pip install openai, save this as extract_product.py, set SPICY_API_KEY and run python3 extract_product.py. It makes one billable attempt and writes no shop data. It verifies the returned SKU, measurements, sale unit and missing values against the fictional source below; production code must build checks from each approved source, not apply FB-320’s measurements to every product.

python

                          "task_id": error.task_id}))
        raise SystemExit(1)

The validator rejects invented modifiers such as “Waterproof Racing Frame Bag.” If your shop allows title casing, apply it deterministically after extraction. Its nonempty evidence excerpt must include both measurements and the sale unit; a copied SKU alone does not substantiate capacity.

Let an Agent prepare the call

For repeated catalog extraction, ask your coding Agent to use the SpicyAPI Skill: “Read zai/glm-5.3-flash/chat, then adapt the example to my input; show the request before running it.” The CLI lookup is spicyapi models get zai/glm-5.3-flash/chat --json; the MCP lookup is spicyapi_model_get with model: "zai/glm-5.3-flash/chat". Chat calls use a compatible client or the chat API; the media task commands do not generate chat replies.

Keep failed rows out of the import

An empty, incomplete or source-invalid result stays unresolved; fix the source or request before buying a replacement. A completed but invalid record is still billed, and a new idempotency key buys a new answer.

  • 400 on seed, medium effort or an audio/file part: this route does not accept them; remove the field, do not retry.
  • 400 when you resend a key: the earlier request is finished or still running and its answer cannot be replayed. Check its task before paying for a replacement.
  • 402 with a spend-cap code: a key limit stopped the run; raise the cap deliberately. Set daily and lifetime caps so a runaway loop ends there.
  • 429: wait for Retry-After, then retry with backoff.
  • Aborting a stream does not stop the bill: you pay what the model reports, up to the amount held, so lower max_tokens instead of disconnecting.

The chat and error guides list every code.

A correct record contains FB-320 / Coast Frame Bag / 320 mm / 4.5 L / one bag, with colour and weight null.

Catalogue edge cases the validator should cover

Unit conversion. Source says 32 cm, database wants millimetres: convert to 320 in code and keep the original unit. A bare "32" stays unresolved. Preserve the decimal too: 45 L is ten times the stated 4.5 L.

Conflicting sources. A current specification says 4.5 L and an old brochure says 4.0 L. Pick the approved source before extraction, or ask for a conflict object. Never average them to 4.25 L.

Batch coverage. Send a list of SKUs and require one entry per SKU, including an explicit unresolved entry. Compare the returned identifier set with the submitted set; nineteen valid records do not complete a batch of twenty.

Truncation. Reject finish_reason: length. Reduce the batch or raise max_tokens instead of importing the visible part of a half-written array. A single small record fits comfortably in 8,000.

Attributes from photographs. This route can inspect an image for visible colour or layout. Keep that observation separate from approved specifications; material, measurements and a waterproof rating need a reliable source before import.

Instructions inside source text. A supplier note can contain text such as "ignore the sizes above". Mark source text as data in the system message, and let your validator, not the prompt, decide what is accepted.

Read the record as a shop editor would

For a wardrobe or accessory catalogue used by an adult creator, the same issue can affect size and included pieces. A photograph of a coordinated outfit does not prove all pictured items are sold together. Keep one SKU per source record, distinguish displayed accessories from included accessories and preserve unspecified materials as unknown. This endpoint receives text, so an approved textual specification must provide those facts.

The model is most useful where source phrasing varies: “one bag,” “single item” and “sold individually” can express the same sale quantity under your store's rules. It is less useful for multiplying centimetres by ten. Normalize that arithmetic deterministically, retain the original text and make conflicting or absent facts visible to the editor.

Adult-content catalogues

The catalog marks the hosted route unrestricted (uncensored), but framing still affects the model’s response. In our September 2026 tests, written intimate scenes between adults rendered in 3 of 3 system-framed requests and 0 of 3 direct requests. Fiction framing produced one softened response and two refusals. Use the system message for the scene context.

See the GLM 5.3 Flash review for the test breakdown and the model page for the live contract.

Start with one record

Run the client on one source note and check that the returned JSON keeps the SKU, both measurements and the sale unit, with null for colour and weight. Then move to a batch with identifier-set checks and your key's spend caps in place.
