Light — We add no content filter, but this model goes past its own limits only some of the time, even with a fiction-writing system prompt. Expect refusals and plan for retries. Legal and consent duties remain with the customer.

Gemini 3 Flash Preview reads up to 256,000 tokens in one request and replies with up to 65,536, at $0.45 per million input tokens, $0.045 cached and $2.70 output. Across our content ladder — L1 Suggestive (a slipping strap), L2 Partial, L3 Strong, L4 Intense (a written intimate scene between two adults) and L5 Extreme (restraint and impact play, or graphic violence, between adults) — it rendered 16 of 23 scored runs in full between 17 and 26 September 2026.

The verdict

The standout number is at the far end of the ladder: all six L5 Extreme requests we sent, written as fiction between consenting adults, rendered in full. L1 through L3 rendered on every phrasing too — nine of nine. L4 Intense is the exception, rendering just one of eight times, mostly coming back softened rather than refused outright. If your use case sits at either end of that ladder, this endpoint is worth testing; L4 specifically is where it's most likely to soften your request rather than write it as asked.

The trade-off for the price is context size: 256,000 tokens is a quarter of the window on the larger Gemini Flash endpoints on this catalogue, which makes this the endpoint for high-frequency short turns rather than whole-document reads. Every scored run is in the Gemini 3 Flash Preview test report; the scoring rules are on our review methodology page; the full parameter list is on the Gemini 3 Flash Preview model page.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Every L5 Extreme request rendered. Six of six, written as fiction between consenting adults, across direct, fiction-framed and system-prompt phrasings.
  • L1 through L3 rendered on every phrasing. Nine of nine runs across suggestive, partial and full-level content came back in full.
  • A cheap rate for the window it offers. $0.45 per million input tokens, $0.045 cached, for 256,000 tokens of context.
  • Reasoning effort from minimal to high, plus tool calling and JSON output on the same synchronous call.
  • Community reports it as fast and detail-rich. One early comment on Hacker News noted it beats larger, pricier models on speed for a similar reasoning tier.

What held it back

  • L4 Intense mostly softens. One of eight requests rendered in full; five came back softened and two were refused. If the point of your request is a plainly written intimate scene, expect it to be toned down more often than not.
  • A 256,000-token window, a quarter of the 1,048,576 tokens the larger Gemini Flash endpoints on this catalogue accept — not the endpoint for a whole long document in one call.
  • Community reports of unprompted adult content in ordinary conversations. Several users reported it steering plain scenes toward NSFW territory unasked, which is the opposite direction from L4's under-rendering on direct requests — worth checking against your own prompts either way.
  • Reliability concerns for serious coding work. Reports of hallucination and inconsistent tool use when the task isn't a short, well-scoped one.

What we tested

Between 17 and 26 September 2026 we ran the full ladder three ways per rung. L1 Suggestive, L2 Partial and L3 Strong all rendered on every one of nine runs across the three phrasings.

L4 Intense: eight requests. Direct phrasing was refused twice; fiction framing softened all three; the system-prompt version rendered once and softened the other two. That's one render, five softened and two refused — the rung with the most softening for this endpoint, and unusual for softening rather than refusing outright.

L5 Extreme rendered six of six: both direct-phrasing runs, both fiction-framed runs and both system-prompt runs all came back in full.

Prompts that worked

Given the smaller window, keep the system message tight and put the material for a single request in the user turn rather than accumulating a long running history.

1. A cheap sweep with a fixed instruction. The shape most requests on this endpoint take: one system message, one batch of material, effort on low.

text
system: Score each of the following product reviews from 1 to 5 for sentiment. Reply with a number only, one per line.
user: <a batch of reviews>

2. A single-request roleplay scene. Since the window is smaller, keep the character brief and let the reply carry the detail.

Settings that matter: reasoning effort low for volume passes, high for careful answers; keep requests within the 256,000-token window rather than accumulating a long chat history; if L4 Intense matters to your use case, expect softening rather than a plain render and budget for a rewrite pass.

Roleplay and how far it writes

Gemini 3 Flash Preview rendered every L1 Suggestive, L2 Partial and L3 Strong request across three phrasings, one of eight L4 Intense requests, and all six L5 Extreme requests. The page label is Uncensored: we add no content filter of our own; what you see is the model and Google's own moderation stack.

Not tested yet: multi-turn chats staying in character over many turns (our runs were single requests); languages other than English; whether the unprompted NSFW drift the community reports in ordinary conversation shows up in a longer chat than our single-request runs cover.

Every character in a request should be an adult, keep real, identifiable people out of it, and you're responsible for the law where you publish.

What the community says

Gemini 3 Flash Preview's launch drew attention for its speed relative to its price: one Hacker News comment opened with "Don't let the 'flash' name fool you", and a roleplay-focused reviewer wrote that its "narration and little details are explosive". On the other side, a Reddit thread titled "Gemini 3 flash is too horny" describes it steering ordinary scenes toward adult content without being asked — a different behaviour from the direct-request softening we saw at L4 in our own tests.
