Seedance 2.0 Mini Review: A Cheap Uncensored Video Draft Tier

Pick Seedance 2.0 Mini for high-volume L1 to L3 uncensored drafts at a lower price than its siblings; it isn't the one to reach for above that rung.

Seedance 2.0 Mini is the entry tier of ByteDance's three-task 2.0 line, capped at 720p and priced below both base 2.0 and 2.0 Fast. In our 24 September content-ladder run it matched its siblings through L1 Suggestive and L3 Strong, and came close on L2 Partial (8 of 9 rendered, one softened). At L4 Intense it trailed the other three Seedance versions we tested that day: all 9 attempts, across every task, came back softened into a tamer scene.

The verdict

On ordinary prompts in our same-day arena run, Mini turned in a well-reviewed clip on an emotional, dialogue-driven scene, with a judge praising the crying-to-laughing transition and consistent office detail. It also produced the least convincing wine-glass shatter we saw across the Seedance line, with the glass flattening into a 2D-looking shape on impact rather than breaking apart.

Pick it for volume: L1 to L3 content, ordinary dialogue and acting shots, and reference-to-video jobs where the price per second matters more than the resolution ceiling. Don't reach for it if L4 Intense is the point of the request; in our tests it didn't get there once.

Key facts

  • Score card: see this page's score card and the Seedance 2.0 Mini test report for the full run-by-run record.
  • Pass rate on our ladder (24 Sep 2026): L1 Suggestive and L3 Strong rendered on every run; L2 Partial rendered on 8 of 9 (one softened, on image-to-video); L4 Intense rendered on 0 of 9. L5 Extreme hasn't been run on this version yet.
  • Price: $0.025 per second at 480p, $0.053 at 720p (the ceiling and the default). Reference-to-video starts at $0.011 per second when you supply your own video clip.
  • Limits: 4 to 15 seconds per clip, up to 720p only, up to 9 reference images, 3 video clips and 3 audio files, no working seed.
  • Sources: every scored run is in the test report above, the scoring rules are on our review methodology page, and the full parameter list is on the Seedance 2.0 Mini model page.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Priced below its siblings. At $0.053 per second at 720p, it undercuts both 2.0 Fast and base 2.0 while matching their L1 and L3 pass rate in our tests.
  • A standout on emotional dialogue. Our "we actually did it" test, a man's voice breaking as he laughs through tears, drew praise from judges for a convincing crying-to-laughing transition and consistent office detail, a scene type we tested Mini, 1.5 Pro and 2.5 against.
  • L1 Suggestive and L3 Strong came through clean. Every one of those runs rendered as written across all three tasks, with nothing swapped for a safer scene.
  • Reference casting at a lower floor than its siblings. Up to 9 images, 3 clips and 3 audio tracks, with a per-second rate below the rest of the line when you bring your own reference video.
  • Ordinary acting and motion hold up. A cat's leap onto a bookshelf and a locked-camera coffee-then-robe sequence both played through cleanly.
  • The same seven-plus-adaptive aspect ratio set as the rest of the 2.0 line, at a lower price.

What held it back

  • L4 Intense didn't render once. All 9 attempts across image-to-video, reference-to-video and text-to-video came back softened into a tamer scene in our 24 September run.
  • The least convincing glass-shatter physics we saw in this family. On impact, the glass flattened into a shape closer to a 2D silhouette than broken shards, and the spilled liquid disappeared rather than pooling.
  • The wok can still overwhelm the shot. Flame growing large enough to fill the frame showed up here too, the same pattern we saw across 2.0 and 2.0 Fast.
  • Capped at 720p. No 1080p or native 4K option; for those, base Seedance 2.0 is the sibling to use.
  • No working seed. Two identical requests return two different takes on every task.
  • One L2 run out of nine slipped through as softened, on image-to-video specifically; the other eight L2 attempts across all tasks rendered as written.

What the clips look like

The gallery on this page holds published, safe-for-work examples from the Seedance 2.0 Mini model page. Our content-ladder clips aren't shown; we report the results only, in prose.

A single camera tilt. The image-to-video example lifts a latte away from frame and tilts up to reveal a woman in a white terry robe leaning on the counter with a sleepy half-smile. One camera move, nothing else, which is the shape of brief that plays to this tier's strengths.

A reusable four-reference cast. The reference-to-video example puts the same man, shown from three angles plus his apron, behind a bakery counter at opening time. The same reference set carries an entire series while only the prompt changes between requests.

Two people, one animal, staying still. The text-to-video example is a low-dawn bedroom scene: two people just waking, a black cat walking up over the covers between them. Judges flagged this exact shot type, one moving animal against two mostly-still people, as a meaningful test for a smaller tier, and it held.

Our own arena test on ordinary prompts found the same trade-off repeating: dialogue and gentle motion held together, while high-energy physical events (a chef's tossed vegetables, a shattered wine glass) were the ones most likely to drift or simplify.

Prompts that worked

The same formula as the rest of the 2.0 line works here, scaled to a single clear idea: name the subject and wardrobe, one camera move or one beat of action, one light source.

1. One camera move, nothing else (image-to-video, 5 s). Keeping the brief to a single event is what makes this tier dependable.

text
The latte is lifted away and the camera tilts up to a woman in a white terry bathrobe tied closed, leaning on the counter with a sleepy half-smile toward the lens, morning light coming in hard from the side. Cinematic, shallow depth of field.

2. A reusable reference set built for a series (reference-to-video, 5 s). The same four references can carry request after request while only the action line changes.

text
References 1-3 are the same man from front, three-quarter and profile; reference 4 is his apron. Put him behind the counter of a small bakery at opening time in that apron, sliding a tray into the case and glancing up as the door chimes.

3. Two people and one animal, mostly still (text-to-video, 5 s). A small tier does better holding stillness than staging a lot of simultaneous motion.

text
Morning in a low bed: the two of them are just waking, the sheet slid down to her waist and his arm still across her back; a black cat walks up over the covers and stretches out between them. Low dawn light.

Weak: asking a small tier to juggle several fast, simultaneous events. Strong: prompt 1. One event, one still, nothing competing for the model's attention.

How far it goes

Seedance 2.0 Mini's page label is Uncensored: we add no content filter on our side. L1 Suggestive and L3 Strong rendered on every one of our 24 September runs, across all three tasks. L2 Partial rendered on 8 of 9 attempts, with one image-to-video run softened instead. L4 Intense was the clear ceiling: none of the 9 attempts we ran, on any task, came back as written; every one was quietly turned into a tamer scene. L5 Extreme hasn't been run on this version yet.

Score card: the current numbers are on this page's score card, recalculated as we add runs.

Of the four Seedance versions we tested that day, Mini's L4 result was the softest: 0 of 9 against 2.0's 1 of 9 and 2.0 Fast's 2 of 9. If a job needs to clear that rung reliably, this isn't the version we'd point you to based on what we've measured so far.

Not tested yet: L5 Extreme on this version; scenes with two women or two men above L1 Suggestive; a full 9-image reference stack.
