Seedream 5.0 Lite Review: Ten References, Uncensored, Tested

Pick Seedream 5.0 Lite for an edit that pulls from several source photos at once; skip it for batched outputs or a native canvas above roughly 2K.

Seedream 5.0 Lite passed every rung of our content ladder on 24 Sep 2026, on both text-to-image and editing, and its editor takes up to ten reference images in a single request. It costs $0.0345 per image on either endpoint.

The verdict

We ran 34 test requests across the two endpoints on 24 September: L1 Suggestive (a slipping strap), L2 Mature themes, L3 Strong, L4 Intense (an intimate scene between two adults) and both L5 Extreme probe types, L5a (consensual restraint and impact play between adults) and L5b (cinematic gore). Every one came back as asked, nothing softened and nothing refused. The same test round also shows what the editor is for: a two-reference poster composite that pulls a figure from one photo and a location from another, and a single-reference relight that swaps an entire scene around a subject while keeping her face, body and pose untouched.

Pick it for edits that need to combine several source photos, or for a general-purpose uncensored still at a flat rate. Skip it if a job needs more than one image back per request, or a bigger native canvas than its roughly 4.6-megapixel ceiling — Seedream 5.0 Pro and Seedream 4.0 both go further on those.

How it scores. The Spicy Index is mostly output quality — public blind leaderboards plus our own blind output test — with specs contributing 15% of the quality-and-capability base before the Freedom Score is included; the full breakdown is in the test report, and its position on our image leaderboard updates live. Freedom Score 96.0 of 100, covering all 6 probe types across 34 runs on 24 September. Median response time is about 72 seconds, 2.1 minutes at the 90th percentile.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Uncensored on both endpoints. All 6 probe types passed on text-to-image and on editing on 24 September: nothing softened, nothing refused.
  • Ten reference images, one edit. Our two-reference poster composite pulled a figure from one photo and a location from a second into one coherent frame; the schema allows up to ten in a single call.
  • A relight can rebuild the whole scene. Given one source photo and an instruction to replace everything but the subject, it swapped the entire setting, lighting and colour grade while keeping her face, body, pose and framing exactly as they were.
  • One flat price. $0.0345 whether you're generating from text or editing, and whichever of the eight output presets you pick.
  • Two output formats. JPEG or PNG, set per request.
  • Eight aspect-ratio presets cover square, portrait, landscape and an ultra-wide 21:9 strip without a crop step afterward.

What held it back

  • One image per request. There's no batch option; each variant is a separate call.
  • A modest native ceiling. Its top preset is about 4.6 megapixels — Seedream 4.0 goes past 4,000 pixels wide for a similar price, and Seedream 5.0 Pro's 2K tier is sharper at the same resolution class.
  • No LoRA support. Custom styles or characters aren't an option on this endpoint.
  • No seed field in the schema. Re-running the same prompt returns a different image each time; keep the prompts you like and edit forward from a saved output instead of re-rolling text.
  • Response time varies. A median of about 72 seconds is fine for a handful of images, but the 90th percentile stretches past two minutes under load.

What the images look like

The gallery holds published, safe-for-work examples from the Seedream 5.0 Lite model page, shown as rendered.

A 21:9 strip, two figures in one frame. The siren-rocks example uses the widest of the eight presets for a cinematic two-subject composition, both drenched by the same wave.

A single subject, one preset, no references. The bunny-croupier and mirrored-elevator examples show the model's straight text-to-image path: one clean prompt, one square 2K frame, no editing step involved.

Two references combined into one poster. The two-refs-poster example takes a figure from one photo and a location from a second, producing one backlit, soaking-wet composite that reads as a single photograph rather than a collage.

Everything but the subject, replaced. The swap-everything example keeps one woman's face, body, pose and framing from the source photo and rebuilds the entire scene, lighting and colour grade around her.

Prompts that worked

Seedream 5.0 Lite takes plain, itemised description well on text-to-image, and "keep X, replace everything else" instructions on the editor. Naming the aspect-ratio preset up front avoids an unwanted crop later.

1. A single-subject illustration (text-to-image, square). The exact prompt behind the bunny-croupier example.

text
Anime illustration, an adult bunny-girl croupier at a velvet casino table, black satin leotard with a white collar and cuffs, sheer black tights and bunny-ear headband, fanning a deck of cards with a confident smirk, chandelier bokeh and stacked chips, rich crimson and gold palette, crisp cel shading, cinematic rim light, detailed linework.

2. Rebuild the whole scene (edit, one reference). The exact prompt behind the swap-everything example. Upload the source photo, then paste this.

text
Keep this woman's face, body, pose and framing exactly as they are. Replace everything else: put her in a rain-soaked back alley at 2 a.m., wet asphalt throwing magenta and cyan neon reflections, steam rising from a grate behind her, a buzzing sign just out of frame. Relight her with that neon as the only key, add the red halation bloom of Cinestill 800T around the highlights, and regrade to teal shadows with warm skin.

3. Two references, one composite (edit). The exact prompt behind the two-refs-poster example. Upload the figure photo first, the location photo second.

text
Cast: one man. Build one poster-shaped frame from these two references: the figure from the first, the location from the second, shot backlit and soaking wet so water traces the line of the body and the rim light does the rest. Cinematic, shallow depth of field, heavy film grain.

Weak: "Two people on a poster." With no reference labelled and no camera or lighting direction, the composite reads flat. Strong: prompt 3. State the cast, label what each reference contributes, and describe the light.

How far it goes

Seedream 5.0 Lite passed every rung we ran on both endpoints. On 24 September we ran L1 Suggestive, L2 Mature themes, L3 Strong, L4 Intense and both L5 Extreme probe types on text-to-image and on editing, 34 runs in all: every one rendered as asked, none softened, none refused. The page label is Uncensored: we add no content filter on our side.

Freedom Score: 96.0 of 100, shown on this page's score card and recalculated as we add runs; all 6 probe types passed across those 34 runs.

Not tested yet: a full ten-reference composite (our test used two source photos at most); scenes with two women or two men above L1 Suggestive; requests near the 3,000-character prompt limit.

Adults only, in every image. A real, identifiable person needs to have consented, and you need the rights to every photo you edit.
