The words to be spoken, exactly as written. Cues in square brackets such as [whispering] or [sighs] are performed, not read. Up to 5,000 characters. For a conversation between two voices, use dialogue instead. at least 1 characters · at most 5000 characters

About 9 sec of audio (rough estimate)

Dialogue0/20
A scripted conversation for up to two voices, used instead of text: up to 20 lines, each with speaker (a name from speakers) and text of up to 250 characters. Lines are performed in order. Billed per second of audio returned, like text. at least 1 items · at most 20 items
Speakers0/2
The cast for dialogue: one or two entries, each with a name the lines refer to, a voice_id, and optionally accent, style, pace and profile (a short description of who is speaking, which is not read aloud). Anything a speaker leaves out falls back to the top-level accent, style and pace. Does not change the price per second. at least 1 items · at most 2 items
One of 30 prebuilt voices, each with a fixed character. Defaults to Kore. It voices text; in dialogue each speaker sets its own voice_id.
Style
WhisperEmpatheticVocal smileNewscasterPromo hypeDeadpan
Overall manner of the reading. Leave empty to use the voice's own default manner. In dialogue it applies to speakers that set none.
Pace

Rhythm of the reading: natural, rapid_fire (fast and clipped), the_drift (slow and lingering) or staccato (short, separated phrases). Omit it to keep the voice's own rhythm; in dialogue it applies to speakers that set none. Slower pacing yields more seconds of audio, which is what you pay for.
English accent for the reading. Omit it to use the voice's own accent. In dialogue it applies to speakers that set none.
0/1000
Free-text direction on how to read: pace, mood, distance from the microphone, who is listening. Shapes the delivery and is not spoken. Up to 1,000 characters. at most 1000 characters

Never read aloud. It only shapes how the script is performed.

Where and to whom the words are spoken, such as “a quiet hotel room after midnight”. Shapes the delivery and is not spoken. Up to 500 characters. Does not change the price per second. at most 500 characters
Temperature
Variation between takes, from 0 to 2: higher values make the delivery less predictable. Leave it unset to use the model's default. Does not change the price per second. no lower than 0 · no higher than 2

Google's newest speech model, directed entirely inside the script

Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS is Google's newest text-to-speech model, released in September 2026. Send up to 5,000 characters and one of 30 prebuilt voices, and it returns a single WAV file. There's no separate style, accent or instructions field on this endpoint: direction lives inside the script itself, as punctuation for pacing and bracketed cues such as [whispers] or [sighs] for delivery. It reads more than 130 languages, detected automatically, and SpicyAPI adds no content filter — in our tests it read our strongest test scripts word for word. You're billed per second of audio actually returned.

Direction
No settings fields — direction goes into the scriptThere's no style, accent or instructions field here: in our tests, sending any of them made the model read its own setup notes aloud at the start of the clip. Direction goes into the text instead — punctuation for pacing, bracketed cues such as [whispers] or [sighs] for delivery.
Cues
Bracketed cues, mostly performedIn our tests, cues like [whispers] or [sighs] were acted out in most clips. In about 2 of 11 test clips, the tag word itself was read aloud instead — worth listening to a batch before shipping it unattended.

What the Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS API does well

  • Newest Google speech model on the platform

Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS reached general availability in September 2026 and is the most recently released Google TTS model SpicyAPI offers, alongside Gemini 2.5 Pro TTS.

  • 130+ languages without a language field

The script's language is detected automatically from the text; there's no setting to force one. The same 30 voices keep their character across languages.

  • Direction lives in the script, not in a form field

Cues like [whispers], [sighs], [laughing] or [gasping] are written directly into the text and acted out at that point in the reading. Commas, ellipses and full stops set the pauses. Nothing else to configure.

  • One lossless WAV file per request

Output is 24 kHz, 16-bit, mono PCM — ready to edit, mix or feed into another tool without decoding a lossy format first.

  • Billed only for the seconds returned

A hold covers the longest possible clip while the task runs; the charge settles to the actual length of the returned audio once it's measured. A failed request isn't charged.

  • Every word read, every cue performed

SpicyAPI adds no content filter. In our tests the model read our strongest first-person and narrated test scripts word for word, and performed bracketed sound cues rather than reading the tags aloud.

Who Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS is for

  • Multilingual content teams

    One model across 130+ languages

The script's language is detected automatically, so a catalog spanning many languages doesn't need per-language routing or a detection pass of its own — send the text and get the reading back in kind.

  • Writers who'd rather direct in prose than in a form

Performance notes written straight into the script

Bracketed cues and punctuation replace a settings panel: a writer blocking a scene's beats — a whispered line, a sigh, a pause — writes them exactly where they happen, in the text they already have.

  • Uncensored audio publishers

    Unfiltered scripts read in full

In our tests the model spoke every word of our strongest monologue and narration scripts, and performed bracketed sound cues rather than reading the tags out loud. What you publish stays your responsibility.

  • Teams evaluating Google's newest speech model

A first look at Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS

Released in September 2026, this is the newest Google TTS model on SpicyAPI — worth trying for its language coverage. If you need explicit style, accent and free-text direction fields instead of bracketed cues, Gemini 2.5 Pro TTS is the sibling model built for that.

How to call the Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS API

  1. Write the script in text

Up to 5,000 characters, exactly as it should be spoken. Commas, ellipses and full stops set the pauses.

  2. Pick a voice_id

One of 30 prebuilt voices, defaulting to Kore. Each keeps a fixed character across every language it reads.

  3. Write direction into the script as bracketed cues

Place [whispers], [sighs], [laughing] or [gasping] exactly where they should happen. There's no separate field for them.

  4. Leave the language undeclared

The script's language is detected automatically from more than 130 supported languages; there's nothing to set.

  5. Read the WAV back once the task settles

The file is 24 kHz, 16-bit, mono, kept on SpicyAPI storage for 14 days. Billing settles to the actual seconds returned once the audio is measured.

Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS worked examples

  • A whispered late-night voice note

The [whispers] cue at the start of the line is acted out rather than read, carrying the mood without a separate style field.

    {"text": "[whispers] Hey... I know it's late, but I couldn't stop thinking about you. Call me back when you get this.", "voice_id": "Enceladus"}
  • A romance audiobook chapter, read in Spanish

The same request format works in any of the 130+ supported languages — send the script in the language you want spoken, with no separate setting.

    {"text": "La lluvia no había parado desde la mañana, y tampoco la carta que seguía sin abrir sobre su escritorio.", "voice_id": "Charon"}
  • A flirty game line with a sigh

A bracketed [sighs] cue placed mid-line is performed at that exact point, without a style field to set the overall tone.

    {"text": "You actually came back for me? [sighs] I was hoping you would.", "voice_id": "Aoede"}

Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS API questions

Because there's no style or instructions field, write the performance directly into the script: use punctuation — commas, ellipses, full stops — for pacing, and bracketed cues such as [whispers], [sighs], [laughing] or [gasping] for anything that should be acted rather than spoken. Place each cue exactly where it should happen rather than describing it up front, since it's performed at that point in the reading. Our tests found this mostly reliable but not perfect — in about 2 of 11 clips the tag word itself came out as speech instead of being acted — so it's worth listening to a batch's first few outputs before generating the rest unattended.
