Krea 2 Medium Turbo Review: Fast, Filtered, Priced to Match

Pick Krea 2 Medium Turbo for this line's look at a price below Large; skip it for NSFW work or reliable on-image text, since both failed in our tests.

Krea 2 Medium Turbo is the distilled, fast-inference build behind Krea's image line — the same weights the open-source community knows as Krea 2 Turbo, hosted here as a paid endpoint at $0.015 an image, below both other tiers on this line. In our 16–24 September 2026 content-ladder runs it behaved like Krea 2 Large rather than Krea 2 Medium: it refused L1 Suggestive through L4 Intense and our restraint-and-impact probe, and only our cinematic gore probe rendered.

The verdict

On our wider 60-prompt arena set it handled cinematic light well — a neon detective alley came back close to a perfect score from our blind judges — but text rendering was unreliable: one neon-sign prompt lost its headline text entirely, leaving only the coffee-cup icon on the wall. Hand anatomy fared better here than on its Large sibling in our sample, with a ten-fingered piano close-up coming back with both hands clearly separated.

Pick it when you want this line's photographic, available-light look at a price below Large's and don't need Large's slower finishing pass. Skip it for adult content, and don't rely on it for on-image lettering without checking the result first.

Key facts

  • Pass rate: on our 16–24 Sep 2026 content-ladder runs, L1 through L4 and our restraint-and-impact probe came back refused; our cinematic gore probe rendered.
  • Price: $0.015 per image, below both Krea 2 Large and Krea 2 Medium, at every one of its eight aspect ratios.
  • Limits: a 5,000-character prompt, up to 10 reference images for style only (not layout), no seed, one image per request.
  • Sources: every scored run is in the Krea 2 Medium Turbo test report, the scoring rules are on our review methodology page, and the full parameter list is on the Krea 2 Medium Turbo model page.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Cinematic light at a low price. A rain-slicked neon detective alley came back with pink and cyan reflections and an anamorphic lens flare, scored close to a perfect mark by our blind judges — output on par with what we saw from the pricier Large tier on the same prompt.
  • Both hands stayed separate on a hand-heavy prompt. A ten-fingered piano close-up came back with both hands clearly readable in our test, where the Large tier fused fingers together on the same brief.
  • The full eight-ratio set, including anamorphic. Same aspect-ratio range as Krea 2 Large — 2.35:1 included — at a fraction of the price.
  • Up to 10 style references. Palette, grain and material can be steered from reference images, same as Large; layout still isn't.
  • A community around the open weights. The model underneath this endpoint is downloadable and has attracted GGUF quantizations and third-party tooling since release, evidence that people are actively pushing on what it can do.

What held it back

  • It refused nearly everything on our content ladder. Same pattern as Krea 2 Large: L1 Suggestive through L4 Intense and our restraint-and-impact probe all came back refused in our 16–24 September runs. If you need uncensored output, use Krea 2 Medium instead.
  • Text can disappear entirely. A neon-sign prompt asking for cursive lettering came back with the coffee-cup icon rendered but no legible text at all in our test — a harder failure than the blurry-but-present text we saw elsewhere on this line.
  • Some compositions read as looser than the brief. A kneeling-mech prompt came back with the pose and hand placement unclear in our test, where other families on the same prompt nailed the pose.
  • No seed and no reference layout control. Same limitation as the rest of the line: style references don't fix a pose or a composition across a series.
  • Community reports of flat expressions on faces, separate from what we tested directly — worth a second look if a project depends on varied facial expression.
  • It's a distilled model, not the full-size Krea 2 base — where the line trades speed for detail, this is the end of that trade that gives up the most detail.

What the images look like

The gallery holds published, safe-for-work examples from the Krea 2 Medium Turbo model page. Our content-ladder frames aren't shown; we report those results in prose instead.

Three ages, one light. Three boxers of visibly different ages lean on the ropes of an empty gym at night, lit by one steaming overhead lamp — the frame this page opens on.

A fogged partition, symmetrical. Two figures on opposite sides of a condensation-covered pane, only a pressed palm and one bare shoulder sharp through the fog — the square aspect ratio chosen to match the symmetry of the brief.

A door left ajar. The same available-light hotel-room frame used elsewhere on this line: a woman in an oversized sweater on the edge of a made bed, lit by one bedside lamp.

Grain and downpour. A black-and-white 35mm fashion frame in a torrential downpour on an empty crosswalk, arms flung wide into the rain.

Prompts that worked

Krea 2 Medium Turbo takes the same style of prompt as the rest of the line — concrete photographic language, one named light source — but symmetrical or geometric compositions are worth stating outright, since our test suggests it can lose track of an asymmetric pose under a busy brief.

1. Symmetry named directly, for a square frame. The prompt behind the fogged-glass image above.

text
Cinematic film still, steampunk alchemy workshop, square frame. Close: the pressed palm and one bare shoulder are the only parts sharp through the wiped patch; the rest of both bodies is dissolved in vapour. Two figures stand on opposite sides of a fogged glass partition, mirrored poses, warm lamp haze.

2. Three subjects, one light source, named once. The prompt behind the boxing-gym cover image.

text
Cinematic film still, boxing gym at night, ringside. Tight on the ropes: sweat sheets down three bare torsos, waistbands rolled low, hand wraps hanging loose off the wrists. Three fighters of visibly different ages lean on the ropes between rounds, one steaming overhead lamp, gold-on-black palette.

Weak: "Neon sign that says Open 24 Hours." Naming the copy alone, with no note on script or size, is where our test lost the text entirely. Strong: name the exact wording, the script style and where it sits on the wall, then check the render before you use it.

How far it goes

Krea 2 Medium Turbo refused nearly every rung of our content ladder, matching the pattern we saw on Krea 2 Large rather than Krea 2 Medium. Across 16–24 September 2026 runs, L1 Suggestive, L2 Mature themes, L3 Strong and L4 Intense were all refused; our L5 Extreme restraint-and-impact probe was also refused. Only our L5 Extreme cinematic gore probe rendered, which has nothing to do with the rest of the content ladder. The page label is Filtered.

Not tested yet: anime and illustrated styles on the ladder; two-women or two-men scenes above what we ran; whether reference images change the refusal pattern (our ladder runs used text only).

Adults only, in every prompt. Never depict a real, identifiable person without their consent.

What the community says

The open weights behind this endpoint drew praise for value: one commenter testing local, open-weight image models said it "really punched above its weight class" for its size. It's also the version most discussed on its own Hugging Face page, where the licence — a paid tier above a revenue threshold, plus a requirement that hosts add content filters — drew a blunt verdict: "The model was killed by the license."

That filtering requirement lines up with what we saw directly: this tier refused nearly everything on our content ladder, the same pattern as Krea 2 Large.
