Input

Image to video
Optional here, and that is the point: the opening frame already fixes what is on screen, so the prompt only has to direct movement — the action, a light going out, the camera drift, the room sound. Briefs are not reviewed on our side, but Seedance's own layer refuses a narrow band of wording, kissing most consistently. Put that beat in the frame instead of the sentence.

Required, and the only required field. It becomes the first frame, so composition, likeness, wardrobe, grade and the quality ceiling all come from it — and in a dark scene it is also what keeps the shadows dark. A sharp, correctly exposed still beats any amount of prompt patching afterwards. Each side must be between 300 and 6000 pixels; a smaller plate is rejected by the input check before you are charged.

Optional closing frame. It decides the picture the shot lands on: a transition, a before-and-after pair, or a loop that opens and closes on the same still. Keep camera and light steady between the two and change one clear state, or the middle of the clip turns into a cut. Each side must be between 300 and 6000 pixels; a smaller plate is rejected by the input check before you are charged.
Output framing, adaptive by default, which follows the ratio of the frame you supplied and spares you a pre-crop. Pick a concrete ratio between 21:9 and 9:16 only when the delivery format is already fixed. No effect on what you are billed.
affects price
Output resolution: 480p, or 720p by default. It selects a rate tier and governs the delivered format only — it adds no detail the first frame does not already have. Higher tiers mean bigger files and longer renders.
Durationaffects price
Length of the finished clip in whole seconds, 4 to 15, default 5, and the billed quantity. A shot driven by a single frame drifts further the longer it runs, so confirm the motion at 4 or 5 seconds before paying for 15. no lower than 4 · no higher than 15
Generate audioaffects price
Whether a native soundtrack is rendered in sync with the picture. On by default; switching it off does not lower the rate in this tier. Turn it off for silent loops and for material you will score in post.
Seed
Integer seed; omit it and each run draws its own. Fix it with everything else held constant to judge what a prompt edit actually changed. It is a comparison tool, not a promise of frame-identical repeats. no lower than 0 · no higher than 2147483647

The smallest 2.0 Spicy tier, with the full duration range

Seedance 2.0 Mini Spicy image-to-video takes one required field, image_url, and returns an uncensored clip of 4 to 15 seconds at 480p or 720p, with a soundtrack rendered in the same pass. It is the smallest of the three 2.0 Spicy editions and publishes the same seven properties as Standard and Fast, so a request body written here stays valid on either of them. What narrows is resolution, which stops at 720p.

Position
The smallest tier in the 2.0 Spicy lineStandard, Fast and Mini Spicy publish one property set between them, so picking an edition is a deployment decision, not a change to the request you write. Mini is the one to reach for when a job runs many takes and what any single take costs matters more than the ceiling it could have reached.
Billing
Sound is included at the same rategenerate_audio is on by default, and a request that switches it off is billed at the same rate per second, so silence here is an editorial decision with no money attached to it. What does move a bill is resolution, which selects the rate, and duration_seconds, the number of seconds that rate is charged for.
Ceiling
720p is the top, and the only narrowingresolution publishes two values on this endpoint, 480p and 720p, where Seedance 2.0 Spicy continues to 1080p and 4k. Everything else matches across the three editions: the same 4 to 15 second range, the same seven aspect_ratio values, the same rule pairing last_image_url with image_url.

What a Seedance 2.0 Mini Spicy request can carry

The full fifteen-second range is published here

The full fifteen-second range is published here

duration_seconds accepts whole numbers from 4 to 15 on this endpoint, the same range Standard and Fast publish, and a request that leaves it out gets 5. A beat with an approach and a settle fits inside one fifteen-second generation, so a scene that needs room does not have to be assembled from two clips in an editor afterwards.

720p holds a close shot

720p holds a close shot

resolution takes 480p or 720p and defaults to 720p. At 720p a tight frame keeps the things a close shot is for, a fabric weave or the highlight on a wet surface, readable at the sizes most feeds and players use. A delivery that has to go out larger belongs on Seedance 2.0 Spicy, whose enum carries 1080p and 4k.

  • aspect_ratio changes the shape without changing the rate

aspect_ratio is one of seven values and sits on adaptive unless you say otherwise, which keeps the proportions of the still at image_url. Naming 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 1:1 or 21:9 composes the output at that shape during generation. The field has no effect on the rate, so reading one brief in two shapes costs what two runs of the same length and resolution cost.

  • A closing frame is accepted only in pairs

last_image_url is published on this endpoint, but a request carrying it without image_url is refused. Sent together, the two stills state where the shot starts and where it lands, which leaves the prompt responsible for the middle alone. Neither field touches the rate, so pinning the ending costs nothing beyond the seconds already being paid for.

  • Keep the seed fixed for a clearer comparison

Keep the prompt, seed, duration and resolution unchanged, then vary one setting at a time. On image-based tasks, reuse the same source images. Compare the staging and motion across a few takes to see whether the change helps.

  • One request shape a pipeline can hold constant

One request shape a pipeline can hold constant

A job that generates the same kind of scene on a schedule wants a body that does not change between items. Only two fields have any effect on what a run costs, resolution and duration_seconds, so a scheduler can fix both once and treat every item after that as identical work.

  • A control run with nothing else moving

    Comparing the three editions

A control run with nothing else moving

Property names, defaults and the duration range match across Standard, Fast and Mini Spicy, so a body run here and resent with only the endpoint changed isolates the edition itself. The one value to check before resending is resolution, the single field whose accepted list differs between them.

  • A stable contract for scenes users write themselves

    Roleplay and companion products

A stable contract for scenes users write themselves

A product that turns scenes written by users between consenting adult characters into short clips needs one request shape it can rely on for everything it ships. image_url carries the character, prompt carries the action, and 480p or 720p covers in-app playback without the product ever choosing between editions.

Building a Seedance 2.0 Mini Spicy API request

  1. Point image_url at a still you can call more than once

A request is valid with image_url alone and invalid without it. On a tier meant for repeated runs it pays to host that still at a stable address, because reusing one URL is what makes a set of takes comparable to each other.

  2. Choose resolution before you write anything else

resolution accepts 480p or 720p, and an omitted field gives 720p. It selects the rate the request is billed at, so deciding it first tells you what a pass costs while the prompt is still a sentence in your head.

  3. Set duration_seconds in whole seconds

duration_seconds is a whole number of seconds and nothing between them: 4 is the floor, 15 the ceiling, and leaving the field out gives 5. The rate chosen with resolution is then charged for each of those seconds.

  4. Leave generate_audio on unless you want silence

The default is true and the soundtrack is rendered in the same pass as the picture. Switching it off does not lower the rate, so turn it off when the clip will be scored later, not as a way to spend less.

  5. Vary one field per run and read across takes

Keep the prompt, seed, duration and resolution unchanged, then vary one setting at a time. On image-based tasks, reuse the same source images. Compare the staging and motion across a few takes to see whether the change helps.

Seedance 2.0 Mini Spicy API questions

Getting more out of a short session

Two fields decide what a session costs: resolution picks the rate and duration_seconds is what that rate is charged for. Hold both at the low end while a brief is unsettled, 480p and four or five seconds, and spend the range only on takes worth keeping. Leave generate_audio on while drafting, since switching it off saves nothing and the soundtrack is rendered against the frames, so a draft with sound shows the timing you will ship.
