Continue a clip with Vidu Q4 Preview: the last frame of your video opens a new 3 to 16 second segment, and you get back one file with the original and the continuation joined, at 540p, 720p, 1080p, 2k or 4k.

Filtering differs by endpoint: Image to video — Uncensored, Video extension — Uncensored, Reference to video — Light.

    affects price
Sharpness of the generated new segment: 540p, 720p, 1080p, 2k or 4k, default 720p. The resolution only sets how sharp the new segment is generated, so match your source’s resolution: a lower setting makes the new part look softer than the original. It sets the price. A 2k or 4k new segment is a 10-bit HEVC file that some browsers cannot play inline when opened on its own.
    Durationaffects price
Length of the new segment: any whole number from 3 to 16. Defaults to 5. Your source is added on top and is not billed. no lower than 3 · no higher than 16
    Generate audio
On by default, so the new segment comes with generated sound. Your source keeps its own sound either way; when one side is silent, the joined file is padded with silence. Does not change the price.

Before you spend

all

Image to video: in our tests requests at the Mild, Moderate and Maximum levels were delivered. Strong-level requests were toned down by the framing. The Very strong level came back only implied on 8 October and has been refused since 9 October (3 of 3 in our retest); refused requests are not charged.

all

Reference to video is lightly filtered. From the Moderate level up it toned down or refused nearly every request, and refused requests are not charged. Mild requests came through, as did one of the two Maximum-level prompts. For unfiltered scenes, use image to video from a frame of the people.

all

At 2k and 4k the file is 10-bit HEVC (H.265). Files are large and some browsers cannot play them inline; edit or transcode them in a desktop tool. 540p, 720p and 1080p are H.264.

all

This is a preview of the full Q4 model, and it has no text-to-video. Every clip starts from an opening frame or from reference images.

image-to-video

There is no aspect-ratio field: the clip keeps the shape of your opening frame. Turning on prompt expansion lets the model rewrite your prompt, and in one run it toned a request down, so keep it off for literal direction.

reference-to-video

A request with no reference image is rejected. Reference audio sets the voice but not the words, so the line must be in the prompt. Clips take longer than image to video, about 3 to 10 minutes in our tests.

What it does

Image to video

A frame that speaks

A woman in a black satin dress at a three-way mirror in a velvet dressing room goes in as the opening frame. The prompt has her turn, reach for the zip and say "Help me with this?" in quotes. The line was spoken in the 720p output, with her look and the vanity bulbs carried through.

Reference to video

Three references, one scene

A portrait, a product photo of an emerald silk robe and an empty boutique fitting room are sent as references. Her face, the robe's colour and sheen, the gilded mirror and the pink velvet curtains all came back in one 720p scene.

Reference voice

The line in your own voice clip

One portrait and one voice clip, with the line written in quotes in the prompt. She turns the key in a candlelit doorway and whispers it, in 9:16 at 720p and nine seconds. The clip sets the voice; the words come from the prompt.

Two people

Two faces kept in one shot

Two portraits of two men in suits go in as references. In a mirrored brass elevator the bearded one loosens the other's tie and they almost kiss as the doors open, with both faces recognisable throughout.

Where it fits

  • Dialogue shots

A character turns to the camera and says a line, with room tone and a matching voice generated in the same pass. Quote the line and keep it short for a 5 to 9 second clip.

  • Fashion and product films

Send a portrait, a product photo and a location as three references and get one scene with all three: the person, the garment and the room.

  • Scenes with two people

Send two portraits to reference to video and both faces stay recognisable in the same shot, for a conversation, an arrival or a near kiss.

  • Platforms without a content filter

Image to video delivered unfiltered results in our tests, so an unfiltered app can start from its users' own frames; the Very strong level has been refused since 9 October. Everyone on screen must be an adult.

How to call the Vidu Q4 Preview API

  1. Put spoken lines in quotes

Write what the person says in double quotes inside the prompt. In our runs the quoted line was spoken in the output. If you attach a reference voice clip, still write the line in the prompt and say it is in the voice from the reference audio; a run without the line came back with no speech at all.

  2. Refer to references by position

On reference to video, name each image by its place in the list: "the woman from the first image", "the robe from the second image". Faces, outfits and rooms from the references carried over in our runs.

  3. Draft at 540p, finish at 1080p

540p is the quickest way to test a prompt. Rerun the one you like at 1080p. Pick 2k or 4k only when you need that size and can handle HEVC files in your editor.

  4. For NSFW scenes, start from a frame

Reference to video tones down or refuses most requests from the Moderate level up. For unfiltered scenes, start from a frame of the people on image to video. Neither endpoint delivers the Very strong level: image to video has refused it since 9 October.

The short version

Vidu Q4 Preview puts Vidu's newest preview model behind image-to-video from an opening frame, reference-to-video from up to 15 images and 3 voice clips, and video-extend to continue an existing clip. Clips run 3 to 16 seconds up to 4k, with sound and quoted dialogue generated alongside the picture, billed per second of output.
