Face Swap Pro Review: Sharp, Unretouched Face Swaps

Pick Face Swap Pro when the face needs to match the sharpness of the rest of the photo; skip it if you want a glossier, smoothed-over result.

Face Swap Pro is the same feature-only transfer as the base Face Swap endpoint — face moves, hairstyle, head shape, pose, wardrobe, lighting and background stay put — with one difference that defines the whole endpoint: no retouch pass runs after the transfer. Skin texture, pores, fine lines and grain come through instead of being smoothed away, so the swapped face matches the sharpness of everything already in the frame. Two required fields, no prompt, no mask, no seed, and unknown keys are rejected outright. It costs $0.16 per image, and on the single strong-level probe we ran on 19 September 2026, the request rendered as asked.

The verdict

Pick this endpoint for close-ups where a beauty pass would be visible as a mismatch — sweat, stubble, water droplets, hard flash. If you'd rather have a face that comes back a little glossier and more forgiving, the plain Face Swap endpoint (and its built-in smoothing) will read as more flattering to most eyes, for a tenth of the price.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Texture survives where a smoothing pass would erase it. The sweat-and-freckles example is the hardest case on the model page for exactly this reason — bare flash, dense freckles, open pores — and every one of them comes through the transfer.
  • Stubble and individual hairs stay sharp. The hard-flash-stubble example rakes hard light across three-day stubble; the strands and the skin under them read the same on both sides of the swap.
  • Water reads as water, not noise. In the wet-skin example, droplets on temples and collarbones survive instead of being smoothed away, which is exactly the failure mode a generic beauty pass produces.
  • A buzz cut makes the seam easy to audit. With no hair to hide behind, the buzz-cut example shows the hairline is the target's own, down to the scalp stubble — only the features are mapped across.
  • Unknown fields are rejected, not silently ignored. There's no prompt or mask on this endpoint, and sending one back a clear error instead of quietly doing nothing, which makes integration mistakes easy to catch.

What held it back

  • It costs more for the same transfer shape as the base endpoint. At $0.16 an image it's roughly ten times the plain Face Swap endpoint's $0.013, for a result that most people will find less flattering by design.
  • No smoothing means every flaw in the source photos shows. If either photo has motion blur, noise or a bad JPEG artefact, that comes through unretouched along with everything else.
  • No aspect ratio or resolution control. Only the face region of the target is replaced, so there's no output-size setting to reach for.
  • Same jawline risk as the rest of the line. A lighting mismatch between the target and reference shows at the seam; match the light direction to avoid it.
  • One face per photo, no batching. A group shot in either source leaves the engine nothing to disambiguate, and each call returns exactly one image.

What the images look like

The gallery holds published, safe-for-work examples from the Face Swap Pro model page, each chosen specifically to stress-test the no-retouch claim.

Chalk dust and hard top light. A climbing-gym frame with harsh overhead light and visible chalk dust — the target this endpoint was built to leave alone.

The hardest texture case. Bare flash on sweat, dense freckles, open pores: the reason this example leads the gallery. Compare the skin either side of the swap rather than the face itself.

Raking light on stubble. Three-day growth under hard side light; the individual hairs and the skin under them survive the transfer intact.

Water as texture, not noise. Droplets on temples and collarbones stay in place while the features change underneath them.

How far it goes

On 19 September 2026 we ran our L3 Strong probe against Face Swap Pro once, and the request came back as asked with no refusal or substitution. That's a single run on a single rung — one confirmed data point, not a claim covering every pair of photos. Check the score card on this page for the running count as we add more.

Adults only, in every photo. Both the target and the reference need to show people who agreed to have their likeness processed this way — your own photos, or ones you're authorised to edit. Never a real person's face used without consent, and never a stand-in for a celebrity or public figure they didn't agree to.

Not tested yet: the other rungs of our content ladder on this endpoint, and pairs with more than one face per photo.

Alternatives

  • Want the same transfer with a smoothing pass, for a tenth of the price? Face Swap is $0.013 and softer by design.
  • Want automatic skin-tone matching and a whole-head option instead? Face Swap Plus is $0.16, same price, different job.
  • Need the hairstyle and hair colour to travel with the face too? Head Swap moves the whole head for $0.013.
