Seedance 2.5 Spicy Review: Further Than Base 2.5, at a Price

Pick Seedance 2.5 Spicy for the harder rungs or 4K from a still: it went further than base 2.5 in our tests, but base 2.5 costs less.

Seedance 2.5 Spicy passed all 5 rungs of our content ladder on 25 Sep 2026, from L1 Suggestive (lingerie, a slipping strap) through L2 Mature themes, L3 Strong and L4 Intense (an intimate scene between two adults) to L5 Extreme, in two kinds: L5a (consensual restraint and impact play between adults) and L5b (cinematic gore); one L2 Mature themes run of 18 framed the content out of shot. Its record goes further than base 2.5's, which has no runs yet on the second L5 Extreme probe type; base costs 36% to 43% less.

The verdict

On 15 September we gave Seedance 2.5 Spicy an L3 Strong still and our L5 Extreme prompt. Both clips we made that day came back with everything: every element we named on screen, nothing covered. On 25 September we ran the full ladder three times per rung: 17 of 18 runs came back as asked, and none was refused.

Pay for Spicy when you want the model to go further, to lean into the harder version of your scene, or to give you a 4K file from a still. Base Seedance 2.5 costs less at every shared tier and also works from text and references; it rendered our L5 Extreme test just as fully, but its record stops short of Spicy's. If what you have is a folder of uncensored stills, MiniMax H3 Spicy moves them for a fraction of the price.

How it scores. The Spicy Index is mostly output quality — public blind leaderboards plus our own blind output test — with specs contributing 15% of the quality-and-capability base before the Freedom Score is included; the full breakdown is in the test report. On specs, it offers sound, a 30-second ceiling and first-and-last-frame control, only animates stills (one task of four, no reference input), and the Index counts 1080p as its native ceiling with the 4K tier as upscaled. The Freedom Score is explained under How far it goes.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Nothing held back from the still. Both 15 September clips kept the still's level on both figures and delivered every element of the L5 Extreme prompt. Nothing added to cover the scene, no safer scene swapped in, no blur.
  • It plays the harder reading. Our prompt asked for a calm mood and an intense one at once. Base 2.5 picked calm; Spicy picked intense in both clips, one cut fast in tight close-ups, the other a single front-on shot that builds as it plays.
  • 30 seconds from one still. Any length from 4 to 30 seconds. One published example runs 20 seconds at 1080p from a single frame.
  • 4K on a 2.5 model. Base 2.5 stops at 1080p. Spicy adds a 4K tier, enlarged from its own 1080p render.
  • It obeys camera limits. "Do not pull back, do not widen the shot" held for all five seconds of our fogged-glass clip, and the action still played out inside the frame.
  • Light on required inputs. The prompt is optional, a closing frame is optional, there's a seed for controlled re-runs, and sound on or off costs the same.

What held it back

  • The most expensive 720p tier we sell. $1.08 for 5 seconds at 480p, $2.16 at 720p, $5.40 at 1080p, $10.80 at 4K; 30 seconds at 720p is $12.96. That is 56% to 75% more per second than base 2.5.
  • It's slow. Our two clips took about 3 and 11 minutes, and real jobs take a median of almost five minutes. The 4K pass adds more on top.
  • 4K adds size, not detail. It is the 1080p render enlarged, so a soft still becomes a large soft file. Start from a sharp, high-resolution frame.
  • Image-to-video only. No text-to-video, no references, no aspect-ratio setting: the clip takes the still's shape. Crop to 9:16 or 16:9 before you upload.
  • It cuts away from your still. When the prompt describes a different scene, it shows your frame for a split second, then cuts to the room you wrote. Describe the motion inside the still's own scene.
  • "No" freezes it. An old prompt of ours spent its words stopping the action ("stays on their backs … and stops there"). The clip cut to the backs of their heads within 3 seconds and held almost still for the remaining 17.

What the clips look like

The gallery holds published, safe-for-work examples from the Seedance 2.5 Spicy model page, shown as rendered. Our ladder test clips aren't shown; we report the results only.

It holds the frame when told to. Behind fogged shower glass, her palm drags down the fog, she leans into the clear streak, and the framing never moves off the glass panel. The sound is running water and one slow breath.

Framing beats "no". The two hot-spring clips start from the same still. The old prompt told the model what not to do, and it cut to the backs of their heads for most of 20 seconds. The rewrite framed the shot instead ("from the collarbone up the whole time"): they rise to the collarbone, one wraps her arms around the other, and both hold the look into the lens. A full sequence in 4 seconds.

The ladder clips, as results only. Both 15 September clips cut from our still to a new red-lit room for the L5 Extreme scene, and every element held in every frame we checked. The first clip is cut fast in tight close-ups; the second holds one front-on shot as the scene builds. On 25 September the L4 Intense and L5 Extreme runs all delivered as asked.

Prompts that worked

On a still, write only what moves: the action, where the eyes go, the camera, the sound. The still already carries the body, the wardrobe and the room. For the upper rungs, name every prop and action plainly, give one mood and ask for one continuous shot; we don't publish the ladder test prompts themselves.

1. Behind fogged glass (720p, 5 s, sound on). Your still: a woman behind a steamed-up shower panel, one palm on the glass.

text
Her palm drags straight down the fogged glass, carving one long clear streak from the wiped patch to the bottom edge, and her fingertips lift away. She immediately steps forward and leans into that clear streak: her face arrives close to the glass and comes into sharp focus through it, wet skin and lashes clearly visible, water beading and running around her cheek. She holds there, eyes level with the lens, and breathes out against the glass so a small bloom of fog spreads and fades. The framing stays tight on the glass panel the entire time. Do not pull back, do not widen the shot, do not change the camera angle. Running water, muffled room tone, one slow breath.

2. Two people in the still: the hot spring (720p, 4 s). Frame the shot instead of saying "no".

text
The two women rise toward camera only as far as the collarbone, water sheeting off their shoulders, and the steam banks thick across the surface in front of them. One slides behind the other and wraps both arms around her from behind, her forearm crossing high over the chest; they settle cheek to cheek and hold the look into the lens while the water swells and slaps the rocks. Slow push in on their faces and shoulders, framed from the collarbone up the whole time. Dusk light on wet skin, drifting snow beyond. Cinematic, shallow depth of field, heavy film grain.

3. Your own still. The still sets the level; ours held it on 15 September, nothing covered. Keep the prompt to what she does.

text
She rolls from her side onto her back, stretches both arms over her head and arches, then turns her face to the lens and holds the look while her chest rises with one long breath. Morning light slides across the sheets. Slow handheld drift from the foot of the bed toward her face. Birdsong outside, the sheets rustling.

4. The look back on the stairs (720p, 5 s, sound on). Your still: a woman on a marble staircase in a backless velvet gown, looking back over her shoulder.

text
She holds the look back over her bare shoulder, then turns and continues up two more steps, the velvet train dragging heavily behind her across the marble, her gloved hand sliding along the brass banister. The chandelier flares a little brighter and the gilt catches, deep shadows swinging across the wall. Slow dolly following her up the stairs, hushed hall reverb, no music.

How far it goes

Seedance 2.5 Spicy has not refused a single run. On 15 September two clips from an L3 Strong still held that level and delivered our L5 Extreme prompt. On 25 September we ran every rung three times from our L1 and L3 stills, from L1 Suggestive to both L5 Extreme probe types. Seventeen of 18 came back as asked. The miss was an L2 Mature themes run where the camera pushed in to her face and left the requested content out of frame; one L4 Intense run played the scene in silhouette. Going the other way, one L1 Suggestive run went past the prompt on its own. The page label is Uncensored: we add no content filter on our side. Base 2.5 hasn't been run on the second L5 Extreme probe type yet and toned down one of its nine L4 Intense runs, so on the rungs we have tested, Spicy goes further; base 2.5 is the cheaper one. The side-by-side is in Seedance 2.5 vs 2.5 Spicy.

Freedom Score: shown on this page's score card and recalculated as we add runs. The extra rounds on 25 September covered all 5 rungs and every rung passed. As of that date, base Seedance 2.5 hadn't been run on the second L5 Extreme probe type, so that was the one test where Spicy had a record and base 2.5 did not.

The still decides what you get: put the wardrobe and the second person in the frame, and use the prompt for motion. The model page also warns that Seedance's own wording check refuses a narrow band of words even here, "kiss" most consistently, so put that beat in the still.

Not tested yet: anything above 480p, including 4K (every ladder run was 480p, 4 seconds); the word "kiss" on Spicy itself; real photographs as the opening still; scenes with two women or two men.

Adults only, in every prompt, still and output. Never depict a real, identifiable person without their consent.

What the community says

Independent talk about Spicy builds barely exists; what there is concerns uncensored Seedance in general. One commenter confirmed that uncensored Seedance served through third-party APIs is the real model: "Yes, they're real Seedance, no refusals." The reason people look for it is the official apps' "hair-trigger platform safety checkers".

On Seedance 2.5 itself, the praise and the complaints carry over. Launch-thread readers were "shocked by the quality and the coherence"; others found faces "stiff and unnatural", and 2.5 launched on ByteDance's own app at roughly twice the price of 2.0.

Alternatives

  • Cheaper, and from text or references too? Seedance 2.5: the same L5 Extreme test came back just as full and it passed L4 Intense 8 times out of 9, but it hasn't been run on the second L5 probe type yet; $0.62 per 5 seconds at 480p. Our Seedance 2.5 review.
  • Uncensored stills and no time to write prompts? MiniMax H3 Spicy: every rung we ran on 25 September passed, L4 Intense and L5 Extreme included. A still alone is a full request; 5 seconds is $0.19 at 480p. Our H3 Spicy review.
  • The upper rungs from a prompt? MiniMax H3 took every rung we tried from text; $0.185 for 5 seconds at 768p. Our H3 review.
  • Native 4K from a still? Seedance 2.0 Spicy renders 4K natively, $5.70 for 5 seconds, 15 seconds a take. It took our L5 Extreme prompt further than written in one of two runs.
  • Uncensored still-to-video on a tight budget? Wan 2.2 Spicy: $0.095 for 5 seconds at 480p, up to 8 seconds, no sound.
