What this effect sends

This is the full prompt, word for word. Copy it, or open it in the generator and change anything you like.

Starting at the feet, the person dissolves into thick black smoke. The smoke rises and swirls upward around them, consuming the legs, the body, the arms and finally the face, which holds a calm stare until the last moment. By the fourth second only a churning column of dark smoke remains, and it drifts up and away, leaving the empty background.

Pictures that work best

  • Full-length photos give the dissolve room to travel from the feet upward.
  • A light background makes black smoke stand out more.
  • Keep the expression calm so the last moment holds.
  • If you want the smoke to linger, ask for it to hang in the air in the prompt.

How it works

  1. 01

    Add one photo

Choose the photo to match the example: include both people for a shared gesture, and keep the face and any hands involved clearly visible. Upload your own photo or start with a Into Smoke sample.

  2. 02

    Check the price

Into Smoke defaults to a 5-second clip for $0.185. Swap the model or change the length and resolution before you run — the price on the button updates to match, and that's the whole cost of the clip.

  3. 03

    Generate

Your Into Smoke clip renders in the background, lands in History and is never published.

Do the move yourself

Into Smoke keeps one version of this shot. To give Into Smoke your own motion or ending, write it yourself in Image to Video, starting from the prompt above.

What it does to your photo

Starting at the feet, the person dissolves into thick black smoke. The smoke rises and swirls upward around them, consuming the legs, the body, the arms and finally the face, which holds a calm stare until the last moment. By the fourth second only a churning column of dark smoke remains, and it drifts up and away. The background is left empty.

In our test runs on MiniMax H3, a silver-haired older woman with red lipstick in a long black coat inside a steel elevator dissolved into thick black smoke from the feet up, her face holding a calm stare until about second three, and by second four only a churning column of dark smoke remained, thinning out at the end. In a second run, a man with short locs in a camel double-breasted overcoat and cream turtleneck inside a gilded vintage elevator dissolved into thick black smoke from the feet up, the smoke reaching his shoulders by second three and swallowing his calm face just after, and by second four only a churning column of dark smoke remained, drifting up and away.

Works best on a full-body or three-quarter photo, since the dissolve starts at the feet and moves up. A plain or evenly lit background helps the smoke read clearly and keeps the empty background believable. The person is fully gone by the end, so choose this for a vanishing act rather than a clip that finishes on them.

It runs on MiniMax H3 for five seconds by default, and H3 itself goes up to 15 seconds and 2K if you want more. Studio also lets you move the same prompt to another model before you generate, such as Seedance 2.0 or Wan 3.0, and the price on the Generate button updates with every change. Our samples were all made on MiniMax H3, so other models will read the prompt in their own way.

Good for dramatic exits, supernatural-style scenes and moody transitions. It also works as a bridge into a dark scene.

Change "thick black smoke" to "thick white smoke" for a lighter mood, or change "calm stare" to "slight smile" for a different last expression.
