MiniMax H3 Edit is the editing endpoint of MiniMax H3, and it works differently from every other video model on the list: you bring a clip, write one sentence about the change, and get the same shot back with that change applied. Your footage keeps deciding who is in the frame, how it is composed and how everyone moves. The prompt rewrites the light, weather, style or setting around them. SpicyAPI serves it as a single endpoint, video-edit.

The verdict

On 26 October 2026 we ran our content test on it: five runs at 480p, 5 seconds, sound off, on our own test clips, with prompts that asked the edit to take the scene to each level. Nothing was refused. Suggestive, Mature themes, Strong and Extreme came back as written; Intense came back toned down, with the requested action not clearly shown. That toning down is the model's own limit. SpicyAPI adds no filter, and we did not test cinematic gore on this endpoint.

Pick it when you already have footage and want it to look different: a new season, a storm, a 1970s film look, a different mood on the same take. Look at MiniMax H3 instead when you are starting from a written scene or a still, and elsewhere if your source clips run past 15 seconds.

Key facts

  • Content limits: no refusals in 5 runs on 26 October 2026. Suggestive, Mature themes, Strong and Extreme as written; Intense toned down. Cinematic gore not tested here.
  • Source clip: one MP4 of up to 15 seconds; a longer clip is refused before anything is charged.
  • Edited clip: any whole number of seconds from 3 to 15; set it to your source length to edit the whole clip.
  • Resolution: 480p, 540p or 768p. 768p is the default; the lower tiers are quicker and cheaper drafts.
  • Shape: leave the aspect ratio empty to keep the source shape, or pick 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 or 9:21.
  • Sound: a new soundtrack is generated by default; switch generation off to keep the source clip's own audio.
  • References: up to nine reference images and three audio clips, named <Picture 1> and <Audio 1> in the prompt.
  • Price: billed per second of the edited clip plus the source clip, at the rate of the resolution you pick. The model page shows the current price.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Your footage stays in charge. People, framing and movement come from your clip; the prompt changes the world around them. In the published example the face, coat and smile survive a full change of weather.
  • One sentence is enough. Write what to change, then what must stay, and one request returns the edited shot.
  • Cheap drafts. The same prompt can run at 480p first and at 768p once you like the take.
  • Sound handled both ways. Generate a fresh soundtrack for the new look or keep the original track untouched.
  • Content levels held up. Four of five test levels came back as written, and none was refused.

What held it back

  • Intense came back toned down. The requested action was not clearly shown in that run. This is the model softening its own output, not a block.
  • Small changes beyond the prompt. The result is a new clip, not your file with a filter on top. In the published example a hand gesture appeared when the prompt asked for wind-blown hair.
  • Effects can read lighter than asked. The rain in the 768p storm example was light, while a 480p trial of the same prompt showed heavier streaks. Check the tier you will deliver at.
  • Narrow testing so far. We have not yet tested reference images, reference audio or 540p on this endpoint, and cinematic gore was not part of this round.

What the clips look like

The gallery holds the one example published on the model page: a woman in a cream satin trench on a seaside terrace, edited from a sunny afternoon into a stormy dusk at 768p and 5 seconds, sound on. The sky turns dark and cloudy with lightning over the sea and the stone looks wet, while her face, coat and smile are kept. It is a safe-for-work clip; our content-test clips are not shown and we report those results in words.

Two things stand out. Weather and light are what we have tested, so start there before asking for bigger changes. And because the footage drives the motion, you can run one take with several looks and compare them instead of shooting again.

How far it goes

SpicyAPI adds no content filter. On 26 October 2026 we sent five runs with adult fictional subjects, on our own test clips, at 480p, 5 seconds and sound off, with prompts that asked each edit to take the scene to one level. We checked every result by eye and do not publish the prompts.

Extreme (restraint and impact)As written

No run was refused or blocked, and cinematic gore was not tested on this endpoint. Because the source footage drives the result, how far an edit goes also depends on what your clip already shows.

Adults only, in every prompt and every source clip. Use only footage and likenesses you are authorised to process: yourself, a performer with a signed release, or a synthetic person you generated. Never impersonate anyone, never edit footage of a minor, and keep your outputs private unless you have the right to share them.
