Video Eraser Review: One Static Mask, Whole Clip

Pick Video Eraser for a burned-in caption band or a corner overlay that never moves; it cannot follow a moving object or erase for part of a clip.

Video Eraser removes whatever sits inside a still mask for the entire clip. You send video_url and mask_url, a PNG the same size as the video frame where white marks the area to erase and black marks what to keep, plus an optional short prompt describing the removal. The area is rebuilt with inferred content, not recovered from hidden pixels. It costs $0.024 per input second, rounded up, with a 3-second minimum, for clips of 1 to 600 seconds.

The verdict

The fit is narrow and clear: a caption band burned into your own footage, a watermark-style overlay in a corner, a logo that stays put. The mask is a single static shape applied to the whole clip. There is no start or end time and no tracking, so a subtitle that moves outside the white region is not covered.

Key facts

  • Content ladder: not tested on this endpoint; it edits footage you supply.
  • Price: $0.024 per input second, 3-second minimum. A smaller mask does not lower the price.
  • Input: video_url (1 to 600 seconds), mask_url (PNG, required), prompt (optional).
  • Limits: one static mask for the whole clip; no time selection, no object tracking.
  • Sources: the parameter list is on the Video Eraser model page.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • The region is spelled out. White erases, black keeps, so you decide exactly where the edit may touch the frame.
  • A clear job for a clear price. Pricing follows the input length only, so a 10-second caption cleanup costs $0.24 however large the mask is.
  • The prompt is optional. A short note about the surroundings can help, but the mask alone is a valid request.
  • Long clips are accepted. Up to 10 minutes per request.
  • Sound survived in our sample. The first test came back with an audio track attached; we have not yet checked it against the source.

What held it back

  • It cannot follow movement. The mask stays at fixed frame coordinates. A moving caption, a person walking through the region or a panning camera is outside what this endpoint does.
  • Moving content behind the mask is the hard case. When a person, product or camera movement passes behind the white area, the fill has to guess, which can show as flicker or distorted edges.
  • You have to build the mask. There is no mask drawing control on this endpoint yet, so prepare a PNG aligned to the frame and check it against the first, middle and last frames.
  • Keep the white area small. Large regions that overlap a face or a product detail are more likely to be visibly repaired.
  • Editable captions are cheaper to fix at the source. If the text is still a layer in your editor, delete the layer instead.

What we tested

We have one real run, from 24 October 2026: a 5-second clip with a burned-in subtitle band and a tight static rectangle over it as the mask. The result came back as a 1280×720 H.264 file, 5 seconds long, with an audio track. We confirmed the file format and the billing, not the fill quality: nobody has scored the filled area frame by frame, checked the original audio against the source, or tried a clip with motion behind the mask.

So the honest summary is that the endpoint runs and delivers a playable file, and the quality of the fill on your footage is something to check yourself. Start with a short sample, inspect every section where the caption appeared, and only then process the full clip. A second sample with a different mask is still on our list.

Alternatives

  • Removing something from a single photo? Object Eraser does the same job on one image.
  • Want the subject without the backdrop instead? Video Background Remover keeps the foreground and replaces the rest with transparency or a solid colour.
  • Need a larger frame after cleanup? Video Upscaler raises the finished clip to a bigger tier.

  • Cover image for Video Face Enhancer, not a model output: a cinematic still of a strip of 35mm film frames on a glowing light table, the same smiling face blurry on the left frames and sharp on the right, a technician's gloved fingers on the strip.
