VEED Dubbing Review: Lip-Synced Dubs in 86 Languages, NSFW Tested

Pick VEED Dubbing when the lips have to follow the new language and a base language is enough; expect per-second billing and no subtitles.

VEED Dubbing is the standard tier of VEED's dubbing API, served on SpicyAPI as a single video-translate endpoint. Give it a talking clip in video_url and a target_language, and three jobs happen in one request: the speech is transcribed and translated, each speaker is voiced again in a clone of their own voice, and the mouths that can be seen in the picture are redrawn to the new words. Everything outside the mouth area stays as filmed.

The verdict

The target list covers 86 base languages, from Afrikaans to Zulu. Regional accents such as Mexican Spanish or British English are not offered on this tier; they belong to VEED Dubbing Pro. Billing runs per second of the source clip, rounded up to the next whole second, and neither the language nor the optional keyterms change the price. The model page shows the current rate.

Key facts

  • Content levels: nothing refused in our runs on 29 October 2026. Suggestive came back as written and re-synced; Strong and Intense clips came back with the picture as sent. Mature themes and Extreme were not tested.
  • Input: video_url (up to 10 minutes, with audible speech), target_language, plus optional source_language (defaults to auto) and up to ten keyterms.
  • Output: one MP4 at the source frame size and 25 frames per second. No subtitle file.
  • Price: per second of the source clip, rounded up; options do not change it. See the model page for the live rate.
  • Speed in our test: 78 seconds for a 4-second clip and about 4 minutes for an 8-second two-person scene.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Both speakers were re-synced. In our 8-second wine-cellar dialogue the woman and the man were each redrawn to Spanish, while the barrels, the glass and the candlelight did not move.
  • The voices stay theirs. There is no voice switch to set: every speaker is cloned from the clip itself, so the Spanish lines kept each person's timbre.
  • The translation reads like a person wrote it. A line in which the woman says she came down to the cellar alone came back as "a solas", which avoids the masculine slip we met on a word-for-word dub of the same scene.
  • The flirtatious line was left alone. A short suggestive German line came back in English with its meaning intact, not softened or reworded.
  • A dead link costs nothing. A video URL that had expired was refused at submission, before any job was created or charged.

What held it back

  • It is priced per second. A one-minute clip costs sixty seconds of dubbing, so long uploads add up fast compared with the per-minute Video Translator.
  • No subtitles come back. The output is the dubbed video only; if you publish captions, you need to produce them separately.
  • The frame rate changes. Our 24 fps sources came back at 25 fps and 0.04 seconds longer, which matters if you cut the dub back into an edit timeline.
  • No accents and no voice control. Only base languages are accepted as targets, and how strongly voices are cloned is fixed. Both controls are on the Pro tier.
  • It can be slow. The two-person scene took about four minutes for eight seconds of footage.

What we tested

On 29 October 2026 we ran four clips on this tier, all completed. A 4-second clip of a performer speaking a flirtatious German line, dubbed into English; an 8-second English dialogue between a woman and a man in a wine cellar, dubbed into Spanish with one keyterm; and two short NSFW clips with a spoken line laid over them, dubbed into English, to see how the picture side is handled.

On the two clips with clear, front-lit faces, a frame comparison against the source showed the mouth area redrawn and the rest of the picture matching. Output kept the source resolution. Jobs took 43 seconds to about 4 minutes. Four runs on one tier is a small sample: it shows the flow works and how the model treats bold material, not how it holds up on long clips, music-heavy audio or rare language pairs, none of which we tried.

How far it goes

SpicyAPI adds no content filter. We sent adult, fictional material only, checked each result by eye and against a transcription, and do not publish the inputs.

LevelResult
SuggestiveTranslated as written, voice cloned, mouth redrawn
Mature themesNot tested
StrongAccepted; picture returned as sent, no blur or cut
IntenseAccepted; picture returned as sent, no blur or cut
ExtremeNot tested

One caveat on the Strong and Intense runs. In those clips the faces were small or turned away, and the spoken line was added afterwards, so there was no moving mouth to redraw: the frames came back unchanged apart from the frame-rate conversion. They show that NSFW footage is accepted and returned intact. They do not show how the lip redraw behaves on a clearly visible face in such a scene; the face-visible proof comes from the Suggestive run. Each level was run once.

Adults only, in every clip. Dub only footage and voices you have the rights to: your own, a performer with a signed release, or a synthetic character you generated.

Alternatives

  • Need a regional accent or control over the cloned voice? VEED Dubbing Pro adds 14 accents and a 0 to 10 voice-similarity setting; see our VEED Dubbing Pro review.
  • Only need the audio in another language? Video Translator replaces the soundtrack without touching the lips, bills per started minute at a far lower cost, and returns a subtitle file; see our Video Translator review.
  • Already have the new audio? Lip Sync redraws the mouth to a track you supply.
