Leave it out and the result keeps the shape of your source at about 2K. Set one of fifteen shapes when you want a fixed frame, for example 16:9 for two people side by side.
1k, 1.5k or 2k, used only when you set an aspect ratio. Every tier costs the same per image.
Prompt expansion
Off by default. On, Alibaba rewrites the instruction first, and in our tests that rewrite dropped requests to reveal more: the source came back unchanged and was still billed. Leave it off for unfiltered edits. Does not change the price.
Deep thinking
Spends extra reasoning on the rewrite, at the cost of a longer wait. Only works while prompt expansion is on. Does not change the price.
Seed
Steadies a draw so you can compare one change at a time. It does not guarantee a pixel-identical image. Keep the returned file when you need that exact frame again. no lower than 0 · no higher than 2147483647
Safety checkerOff

SpicyAPI does not run a safety checker on this model. Your prompt and media go to the model as written, and the model itself decides what comes back.

Natural-language edits on the 8-step checkpoint

Qwen Image 2.1 Turbo edits with the same weights it generates with. Describe the change in plain words — from adding an accessory to changing the whole scene — and the model redraws the frame in eight denoising steps. On SpicyAPI the editing endpoint is live: one to ten reference images, one to six results per request at one flat price, and no content filter in front of it. Leave the aspect ratio out and the result keeps your source's shape. Prompt expansion is off by default, because with it on Alibaba's rewrite can drop the very change you asked for.

Iteration
Edits are where step count compoundsAn edit is rarely one call. You change the dress, check the face, adjust the light and run it again, so the time per round is paid on every round. Turbo is built for that back-and-forth, and asking for two or three results per edit means fewer rounds.
References
Say what each reference is forReferences arrive as an ordered list. Name them in the prompt as Image 1, Image 2 and so on and give each a job — the man from Image 1, the woman from Image 2, the rooftop from Image 1. In our two-portrait test that was enough to put both people in one frame with both faces recognisable.
Content
Keep expansion off for adult editsWith prompt expansion on, two edits that asked to take a portrait to a stronger content level came back as the untouched source, and were billed as completed. With it off, the same instruction was followed. It starts switched off here for exactly that reason.

Working with the Qwen Image 2.1 Turbo editing API

One fixed schedule for every edit

One fixed schedule for every edit

The 8-step schedule ships inside the checkpoint, so an edit runs on the same sampling plan as a generation and there is no step count to raise for a harder change. What moves the result is the instruction and the references, which is where the effort in an edit belongs.

Generation body plus one array

Generation body plus one array

The edit request is the text-to-image request with image_urls attached, so one request builder covers both endpoints. Branch on whether references are present, and remove the key rather than send an empty list: the array needs at least one entry, and the generation endpoint does not declare it.

  • No mask: name the region instead

There is no mask field on this endpoint. Say in words which part of the picture changes — the dress, the background, the sky through the window — and list what must stay. If you need a painted mask, Qwen Image 2.1 editing on SpicyAPI takes one.

  • Compositions from several images

Up to ten references go into one edit, and multi-reference composition is in Alibaba's showcase. Give each source a job in the prompt and keep the count to the images that change the result. We tested two; check identity yourself when you send many.

  • The same edit on your own GPU

Self-hosted, the Diffusers pipeline takes the source through its image argument with the same 8-step schedule and KV caching. The weights are under the Qwen Research License, so check its terms before a self-hosted copy goes into a commercial product.

  • Write the change first, then what stays

Open with the one thing that should change — the dress, the background, the hour — then list what must stay exactly as it is: face, hair, pose and framing. Our singer example changed a velvet dress into a backless crimson gown and kept her face, hair and the microphone.

  • Outfits, backgrounds and lighting

Alibaba describes Turbo's edits as running from adding an accessory to changing the whole scene. Those are the everyday retouching jobs: a new outfit on the same person, a new place behind them, or the same room at a different hour. Describe the new light along with the new setting, so the subject is relit rather than pasted in.

Who uses the Qwen Image 2.1 Turbo editing API

  • Many small rounds, not one big one

    Retouchers and content teams

Many small rounds, not one big one

Wardrobe passes, background swaps and lighting fixes are a sequence of quick edits, each checked before the next. Ask for two or three results per round, keep the best, and send it back as the reference for the next change.

  • Your GPU or a hosted edit

    Developers weighing self-hosting

Your GPU or a hosted edit

Local editing means keeping a Diffusers build, the VRAM for a 7B model and the research license in order. The hosted endpoint takes the references by URL and returns the result to your storage, priced per image whatever the number of references.

  • Match the guide to the weights

    Anyone comparing turbo workflows

Match the guide to the weights

Notes about one to three references, ghosting in face swaps or slightly desaturated colour come from Viggle's community LoRA. They may or may not hold for Alibaba's checkpoint, which takes up to ten references here and has its own model card. Test the official one on its own terms.

  • Two people from two photos

    Multi-photo compositions

    Two people from two photos

Putting two people photographed separately into one frame is a multi-reference composition. Give each reference a role in the prompt, say where each person stands and what they wear, set a 16:9 frame so both fit, and name one shared light source so the pair looks lit together rather than assembled.

How to run a Qwen Image 2.1 Turbo edit

  1. Attach references, or leave the key out

image_urls is what makes a call an edit, one to ten images. To fall back to plain generation, remove the key; an empty list is rejected.

  2. Host every reference at a direct public URL

Each entry has to resolve to a downloadable image file. A viewer page or a link that expires before the task runs fails at fetch time.

  3. Name the roles in the prompt

Say which image is the person, which is the place and which is the garment, as Image 1, Image 2 and so on in array order.

  4. Leave the aspect ratio out to keep the shape

Without it the result follows your source at about 2K. Set one when two people need a wide frame or you need a fixed size.

  5. Keep prompt expansion off

It is off by default. With it on, Alibaba's rewrite can drop the change you asked for and hand back the source unchanged.

Qwen Image 2.1 Turbo editing patterns

  • An accessory added, nothing else touched

Alibaba's own phrase for the simplest Turbo edit is adding an accessory. Name the item, where it goes and what must not change, and send one reference so you can see exactly what moved.

Add a thin gold chain necklace with a small round pendant to the woman in the image, resting just below her collarbone; keep her face, hair, expression, clothing, pose, lighting and background exactly as they are
  • A scene change with the subject kept

At the other end of Alibaba's range is changing the scene. Keep the person, move the place, and describe the new light so the subject is relit for it rather than pasted in.

Keep the man in the image exactly as he is, including his face, hair, linen shirt and pose; move him from the studio to a sunlit terrace overlooking the sea in late afternoon, warm low sun from the left, soft shadows matching the new light
  • The same room at a different hour

Changing the time of day is a lighting edit more than a scene edit. Keep the person and the room, say what the new light is and where it comes from, and let the shadows follow it.

Keep the woman, her face, hair, black satin slip dress and her pose on the sofa exactly as they are; change the room from bright afternoon to late evening, warm lamp light from the right, city lights through the window behind her, deep soft shadows

Qwen Image 2.1 Turbo editing questions

Running an edit pipeline on Turbo

An edit is the generation body plus references and a clear instruction. Host each reference at a direct URL, give each one a job in the prompt, leave the aspect ratio out to keep the source's shape, keep prompt expansion off, and ask for two or three results per round. Send the keeper back as the reference for the next change.
