An optional closing image narrows the allowed duration to 3–10 seconds. Requests above that range are refused before charging.

Video editing

Source footage is cut at 10 seconds; the output follows the retained source duration.

Reference to video

Up to six image references and three video references are accepted. Each reference video can run up to three seconds; its sound is ignored. Google lists one video reference when generating 11–15 seconds.

What it does

Text scene

A market moment with its own sound

In our tests, the 6-second 720p market scene showed a cook tossing noodles over a flaming wok and delivering the requested line. Sizzling oil, rain and market chatter accompanied the action.

Opening still

Set a boat departure in motion

The 5-second pier example starts from one nighttime still. In our tests, the wooden speedboat eased away from the hotel while its passenger waved, with engine hum, water and a distant band.

Two stills

Plan where the movement settles

An opening studio image and a closing pose guide this 5-second animation. In our tests, the dancer moved between the two poses to soft piano with a locked camera.

Image references

Bring two people into a railway scene

In our tests, two reference portraits became a 6-second dining-car scene. One traveler passed a folded note across the table; the other read it and smiled, accompanied by train rhythm and cutlery sounds.

Source edit

Move the performance to a lakeside stage

In our tests, editing replaced the gray studio with a moonlit stage beside misty water. The dancer and movements stayed in the scene while the setting changed.

Where it fits

  • A spoken market vignette

Sketch a cook, one action and a short quoted line, then request sizzling oil and rainy market ambience.

  • A hotel arrival or departure

Animate an opening pier image into a boat departure, or add a closing image when the final composition is planned.

  • A scene with returning characters

Use reference portraits to put two established people in a new setting, such as a dining car at dusk.

  • A different stage for a performance

Ask video-edit to change a studio into a lakeside setting while preserving the recorded movement.

How to call the Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash API

  1. Match the endpoint to your starting material

Begin with text for a new scene, an opening still for animation, references for visual guidance, or a video for a focused revision.

  2. Make the scene structure clear

Google says the model may create several shots by default. Add “no scene cuts” when you want one take, and put requested speech in quotation marks.

  3. Assign each reference a job

Write “use the location in Image 2” or “move like Video 1” so the prompt explains the role of each upload.

  4. Review a small draft before increasing resolution

Use 360p to explore an idea at the lowest offered rate. Google upscales 1080p and 4K, and those options cost more.

  5. Keep an edit instruction focused

Google recommends simple changes followed by “Keep everything else the same.” Check source duration before submitting: editing cuts footage at 10 seconds.

The short version

Choose a starting point, describe one scene or revision, and review the result with sound. Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash offers 3–15 second generation, reference images and clips, and source edits capped at 10 seconds. Save any results you need within the 14-day storage period.
