Pick the shape and the length before writing a word

LTX 2.5 text-to-video turns a written brief into a 5 to 20 second clip at 720p, 1080p, 2K or 4K, with 16:9 and 9:16 as the only two frame shapes. Both aspect_ratio and duration_seconds are read at generation time, so a 20-second vertical version of an idea and a 5-second landscape draft of it are two separate calls. The prompt is the only required field.

prompt only; aspect_ratio, resolution and duration_seconds fall back to 16:9, 720p and 5 seconds

16:9 or 9:16, default 16:9, with no square or 4:3 option
Duration
5 to 20 whole seconds, default 5, fixed at request time
Resolution ladder
Four billed tiers: 720p, 1080p, 2K and 4K, default 720p

Five fields and nothing else; unknown keys are rejected
Order of decisions
Shape first, length second, wording lastaspect_ratio and duration_seconds are read once, when generation starts, and no later edit reaches them. Producing a 9:16 cut of a 16:9 brief means composing the shot a second time, so settle the deliverable and let the prompt describe what happens inside that frame.
Coverage
One generation carries the whole beatLightricks describes LTX 2.5 as native multi-shot: a single generation can produce several connected shots while character, scene, lighting, visual style and voice stay consistent across the cuts. A brief that runs an entrance, a hold and an exit belongs in one call.
Family split
The Spicy siblings have no text endpointLTX 2.3 Spicy and LTX 2.3 Spicy LoRA both start from an uploaded frame and stop at 1080p. An idea that exists only as words has exactly one entry point in this family, and its ladder reaches 4K.

What the LTX 2.5 text-to-video API does well

Nothing to source before the call

Nothing to source before the call

A written brief is the entire input, so there is no still to license, crop or color-match first. That makes text-to-video the shorter path when a shot exists only as an idea, with the prompt carrying subject, wardrobe, camera and light on its own.

The frame is committed before generation starts

The frame is committed before generation starts

aspect_ratio takes 16:9 or 9:16 and falls back to 16:9 when you leave it out. The same sentence composes differently on a portrait canvas, so deciding the shape up front is what keeps the prompt and the deliverable in agreement.

  • One paragraph, ordered the way the shot plays

Subject, action, camera and light written in the sequence they happen read more reliably than the same details in spec-sheet order. One request covers the full 5 to 20 seconds, so the brief works best as a timeline of the shot.

  • Draft at the bottom tier, finish at the top

720p and 4K come out of the identical five-field request, so a draft pass costs one string change to resolution instead of a rewritten brief. Judge blocking and pacing at 720p, then re-run the winner with the same prompt and seed.

  • Uncensored direction with no extra field

This endpoint runs on the unrestricted policy tier and has no content-mode switch in the request. An uncensored brief goes through the same five fields as any other, so the call you write is identical whatever the material is.

  • A closed request body

The schema accepts prompt, aspect_ratio, duration_seconds, resolution and seed, and rejects every other key. There is no style selector, no negative prompt and no audio field, even though every clip comes back with a generated soundtrack: describe the sound you want in the prompt, and replace the track in the edit when you need your own mix.

Who reaches for LTX 2.5 text-to-video

  • When no reference frame exists yet

    Concepting from a blank page

When no reference frame exists yet

A scene that lives only in a document skips the sourcing step altogether. Write the shot, run it at 720p to check how it reads, then raise resolution once composition and pacing already hold up at the cheap tier.

  • 9:16 decided before the prompt, not cropped after

    Vertical-first production

9:16 decided before the prompt, not cropped after

Portrait delivery needs aspect_ratio set at request time. Writing for a 16:9 frame and cropping the export afterwards produces a composition nobody reviewed, because the model framed the action for a wider canvas than the one that ships.

  • An entrance, a hold and an exit in one call

    Multi-beat scenes

An entrance, a hold and an exit in one call

Lightricks' native multi-shot description is what makes a three-beat scene hold together inside a single 20-second generation, with character and lighting carried across the cuts instead of reassembled from three separate requests in an edit.

  • A draft-to-master path inside one endpoint

    4K finishing pipelines

A draft-to-master path inside one endpoint

The 4K tier returns a plate with enough detail to survive a grade and a reframe. Draft at 720p, hold the seed, then run the same brief once at the top tier so the only difference between the two calls is pixel count.

How to call the LTX 2.5 text-to-video API

  1. Fix the frame first

Choose 16:9 or 9:16 before drafting the prompt. The same description composes differently once the canvas orientation changes, and the field falls back to 16:9 if you say nothing.

  2. Decide the runtime, not a rough length

duration_seconds is a whole integer from 5 to 20, read at generation time. A 6-second and an 8-second brief are separate calls, and the default is 5 when the field is left out.

  3. Write the beat in the order it happens

Subject, action, camera and light in one paragraph, following the timeline of the shot. Anything you want kept out of frame has to be phrased as what should be there instead, since no negative prompt field exists.

  4. Draft at 720p before committing resolution

Blocking, pacing and the arc of the scene are all judgeable at the bottom tier, and a top-tier render of a composition that still needs rework buys nothing but a longer wait.

  5. Re-run the winner with the same seed

Once 720p reads correctly, set resolution to 1080p, 2k or 4k with the prompt and seed unchanged, so the only variable between the two calls is the tier you are paying for.

LTX 2.5 text-to-video worked examples

  • Three beats inside one generation

An arrival, a crossing and a turn written in the order they play, so one call carries the whole scene instead of three requests joined in an edit.

Cinematic 16:9: an adult woman in a backless black satin dress steps out of a service elevator onto a rooftop bar at blue hour, crosses to the parapet as the city lights come up behind her, then turns back toward camera. Handheld follow at shoulder height, settling as she turns, warm practicals against a cool sky.
  • A vertical brief with the frame decided up front

aspect_ratio set to 9:16 before the prompt exists, so the action is staged for a portrait canvas instead of surviving a crop afterwards.

Vertical 9:16 fashion film: an adult woman in a liquid-gold slip dress walks across a flooded warehouse floor, each step throwing a ring of water, a single hard spotlight from a high window. Camera tracks backwards at waist height, slow motion on the final turn, water beading on the fabric.
  • A drawn register carried entirely by wording

No style field exists on this family, so an illustrated look has to be written into the prompt like any other part of the shot.

Hand-drawn 2D animation, thick ink linework over watercolor washes: an adult woman in a knitted sweater pushes open the door of a seaside bookshop in a rainstorm, folds her umbrella, shakes the water from her hair, and leans on the counter laughing with the owner while the window fogs. Warm lamp light, rain streaking the glass, paper grain across the frame.

LTX 2.5 text-to-video API questions

Decide aspect_ratio and duration_seconds before writing the prompt, because both are read once at generation time and no later edit reaches them. Then write the shot as one paragraph in the order it happens: subject, action, camera, light. Lightricks describes LTX 2.5 as native multi-shot, so a brief with several beats can stay in a single call, while a brief that only describes the opening leaves the rest of the runtime to the model.
