Lift harsh shadows off a photo — same person, soft even light

Send a photo with leaf patterns, blind stripes or hard midday sun across a face and get the same scene back, relit with soft, even light. The person, the outfit and the background stay where they are. There is no prompt to write: the instruction is built in, so a folder of photos is a folder of identical calls.

Why remove shadows with Shadow Remover

  • It does what a plain edit model won't

With the same photo, instruction and seed, the underlying edit model on its own left the palm-leaf shadows exactly where they were. With the dedicated shadow-removal LoRA in place they were gone and the face was evenly lit.

  • No wording to get wrong

The instruction is fixed, so there is nothing to rephrase and retry. Every photo in a batch is treated the same way.

  • Keep your shape or reframe

Leave aspect_ratio empty and the result keeps your photo's proportions at about one megapixel, or pick one of nine ratios: 1:1 is 1328 × 1328, 16:9 is 1536 × 864. Every ratio costs the same.

  • One price per image

A large photo costs the same as a small one, so a batch budget is simple arithmetic. The live per-image price is at the top of this page.

Who uses Shadow Remover

  • Outdoor portraits shot in harsh sun

    Travel and portrait photographers

Outdoor portraits shot in harsh sun

Pergola grids and palm-leaf shadows across a face are the usual reason a good holiday portrait goes unused. Lift them and keep the moment you actually caught, without a reshoot.

  • Outfits without blind stripes

    Fashion and product teams

    Outfits without blind stripes

Window and blind patterns across clothing hide the colour and the fabric. Even them out so the outfit is what people see.

  • A clean base for new light

A clean base for new light

A lace-curtain pattern over a face, legs and stone steps came off in one call. Starting from flat light gives Relight a clean base to work from.

How to call Shadow Remover

  1. Pick a photo where the shadow is the problem

The tool flattens all light, not just shadows. A photo whose drama comes from one hard key light will lose it, so keep those as they are.

  2. Send image_url and poll the task

Pass a public HTTPS link or an upload. The call is asynchronous: create the task, poll it or take a callback, then download the image.

  3. Compare faces before you replace the original

Faces are redrawn while the light changes. Most stay very close, but in one of our four test photos the face drifted a little.

Real results from our test runs

  • Palm-leaf shadows in a courtyard

Midday sun through a palm frond left hard leaf shadows on his face and shirt. The result is evenly lit, with the same face, shirt and whitewashed courtyard. The same seed without the shadow-removal LoRA left the shadows untouched.

Shadow Remover questions

Where it fits

Shadow Remover is usually step one. Flatten the light here, then describe the light you actually want with Relight. If an object in the frame is the problem rather than the light, use Object Eraser; to cut the subject out entirely, Background Remover. The result is about one megapixel, so run Image Upscaler last when you need print size.
