One to three publicly fetchable URLs for images you hold the rights to. Order matters: your prompt refers to them as first, second and third, and the model does not assign roles on its own. at least 1 items · at most 3 items
Applies to the result, not to the sources. A reference that is not the ratio you set comes back reshaped, so match it deliberately when you want the original framing kept.
affects price
1k or 2k, default 2k. It is the tier choice that changes the price; each reference image in image_urls also adds to the quote. It sets the delivered tier and cannot recover detail the source never had.

Fixed at 1: one edited image per request. To tell an ambiguous instruction from an unlucky draw, send the same edit two or three times in parallel without a seed. no lower than 1 · no higher than 1
Prompt expansion
On by default on this family. It fills out thin briefs and rewrites detailed ones, so turn it off once your prompt is a precise shot description.

Three references and a negative prompt Qwen Image 2 never had

Qwen Image 3.0's image editing API merges one to three reference images under a single instruction of up to 5,000 characters, where Qwen Image 2's edit endpoint takes exactly one reference and 800 characters. The quote covers the delivered image plus every reference you send, the first one included, and aspect_ratio sets the output frame instead of inheriting it from the sources.

Three references and a negative prompt Qwen Image 2 never had
Reference images
One to three per call, against exactly one on Qwen Image 2
What is quoted
The delivered image plus every entry in image_urls, the first one included
Instruction length
Up to 5,000 characters, the same budget as this family's text-to-image endpoint
Negative prompt
A separate 2,000-character field for what the edit must not introduce
Output frame
aspect_ratio sets it and defaults to 1:1, whatever shape the sources are
Resolution
1k or 2k tier, 2k by default, chosen independently of the references
Reference count
Three sources where there used to be oneQwen Image 2's edit endpoint takes exactly one reference image. This one reads up to three, so a single call can pull a subject from the first, a setting from the second and a material or lighting cue from the third, with each role named in the instruction.
What the quote counts
Every reference is part of the price, the first one includedEditing is quoted on the delivered image plus each entry in image_urls, so a three-reference merge and a one-reference retype do not cost the same. The estimate on this page moves as references are added, which makes it the number to read before a test run.
Frame control
The output shape is set, not inheritedaspect_ratio decides the result's frame and defaults to 1:1, so a wide source sent without the field comes back square. Set it on every edit where the result has to keep, or deliberately break, the shape of what went in.

What changed in the Qwen Image 3.0 edit API

Up to three references, each with a role you state

Up to three references, each with a role you state

image_urls takes one to three URLs, a jump from the single reference Qwen Image 2's edit endpoint accepts. The array order is how the instruction addresses them, first, second and third, and the model works out nothing on its own: an unnamed reference is an invitation to blend everything together.

negative_prompt is new to this generation's editing endpoint

negative_prompt is new to this generation's editing endpoint

A 2,000-character field for exclusions did not exist on the older edit endpoint, so the artifacts an edit tends to introduce, such as duplicated lettering, stray reflections or seams where a garment was changed, have somewhere to go other than the middle of the instruction.

  • Every reference in the call is part of the quote

The price covers the delivered image plus each entry in image_urls, the first one included, so attaching a third source changes what the call costs. The estimate on this page already counts the references in the form, which makes it worth a look before a long batch.

  • aspect_ratio sets the result and defaults to the square

Nothing ties the output's shape to the references. Left alone, the field returns a 16:9 source at 1:1, so set it on any edit where the frame matters, and set resolution separately for the 1k or 2k tier.

  • The Pro model's edit endpoint takes the same fields

Reference count, instruction length, negative_prompt and the resolution tiers match Qwen Image 3.0 Pro's edit endpoint, so a multi-reference call written here runs there untouched. The two differ in the price each page shows and in what Alibaba's own material says each is built for.

  • Add the second and third reference where one was the limit

Add the second and third reference where one was the limit

A single-reference edit written for Qwen Image 2 runs here as it is. What opens up is the second and third slot: a subject, a setting and a material can be combined in one call, instead of being stacked through separate passes that each redraw the frame a little further from the original.

  • Merge a subject, a setting and a material in one instruction

    Multi-source composites

Merge a subject, a setting and a material in one instruction

Three slots are enough to name a face in the first reference, a location in the second and a finish or light source in the third, each assigned in the instruction text. What comes back is one render, which is easier to judge than a chain of edits that drift with every pass.

  • Keep a standing exclusion list out of the instruction

    Repeat edit runs

Keep a standing exclusion list out of the instruction

A team running dozens of related edits can hold duplicated lettering, visible seams and stray reflections in negative_prompt and leave that field untouched between calls, while the instruction changes with each edit. The two concerns stay separate across the whole run.

  • Confirm reference handling before paying Pro rates

    Teams evaluating the Pro model

Confirm reference handling before paying Pro rates

The edit endpoints on this model and on Qwen Image 3.0 Pro take the same fields with the same limits, so a three-reference merge tested here behaves the same way over there. Compare the two on the output and on the price each page shows, not on how the call has to be built.

How to call the Qwen Image 3.0 edit API

  1. Decide what each reference is for

With up to three entries in image_urls, settle before writing the instruction which one carries the subject, which the setting, and which a material or lighting cue.

  2. Name each reference in the instruction

Refer to them as the first, second and third image, in the order they sit in image_urls, and say what each one supplies. The model assigns no roles on its own, and an unnamed reference is open to being used for anything.

  3. Put exclusions in negative_prompt

Duplicated lettering, stray reflections and seams belong in the separate 2,000-character field, not appended to the instruction, which keeps the instruction about the change itself.

  4. Set aspect_ratio for the frame you need

The output takes no shape from the references and the field defaults to 1:1, so set it on any edit where the result has to match, or deliberately differ from, what was sent in.

  5. Check the estimate against the reference count

Every entry in image_urls is part of the quote, the first one included, so a three-reference test costs more than a one-reference test. The estimate on this page updates as references are attached.

Qwen Image 3.0 worked examples

  • A one-reference retype with an exclusion list

Keeping the change instruction and the exclusion list in separate fields stops the edit prompt from turning into a paragraph of caveats.

Change only the neon sign text from 'OPEN LATE' to 'OPEN 24HRS' in the same script and color, keep everything else in the frame unchanged
  • A two-reference wardrobe and location merge

Assigning each reference a role by its position in the array keeps a merge from settling into an unresolved blend of both sources.

Take the jacket and pose from image 1 and place the subject in the rooftop setting shown in image 2, matching image 2's evening light and color temperature; keep the jacket from image 1 unchanged
  • A three-reference upholstery swap

A third reference carries a finish or texture source, so the edit does not need a follow-up call to apply it.

Take the chair from image 1, place it against the wall shown in image 2, and apply the fabric texture from image 3 to the upholstery; keep the chair's shape and the wall's lighting unchanged

Qwen Image 3.0 edit API questions

Assigning roles across multiple references

State the change first, then name what each numbered reference contributes: a subject from the first, a setting or material from the second or third, in the order they sit in image_urls. Anything left unmentioned is open to being redrawn, and every reference in the call is part of the quote, including the first, so trim the set to what the edit actually needs before submitting.
