Recast the person in a clip from a single image — same moves, same camera

Send a short video, one image of the new character and a few words saying who to replace. One request returns a fresh clip in which that character performs the original take: the same steps, turns, glances and camera move, with sound. A photo, a 3D render or a comic drawing of the character all work.

How MiniMax H3 Character Swap behaves

  • It follows the take beat for beat

A character-swap adapter is loaded at full strength on every call. With it, the swap repeated the source move for move; the same base model without it drifted from the performance and once left the original man in the shot as a passer-by.

  • Only the named person changes

Write "the man in the white shirt" or "the woman on the left". In a two-person test only that person changed; the other person, the props and the action stayed as filmed.

  • A fresh clip, not a paint-over

The output is generated from your source, so background details can differ. One run added extra dancers behind the performer; another seed kept the room empty. Check faces and hands before you publish.

  • When the outfits are too close

When the source person already wore something similar to the reference — a black jumpsuit swapped for a scarlet one — the source outfit stayed and the face drifted in both tries. A different source clip fixed it.

    Recast a take without reshooting

A woman in a trench coat on a funicular at sunset becomes a woman in a scarlet jumpsuit who tucks her hair and laughs on the same frames.

A drawn character in real footage

An inked comic-book heroine was cast as a live-action woman with the same red hair, freckles and flight jacket, getting up from a barber's chair.

Run the same barbershop clip against a 3D-animated character and a comic drawing, then compare the two recasts side by side.

How to call MiniMax H3 Character Swap

  1. Start with one continuous shot

3 to 15 seconds, no cuts, with the person you want to replace clearly visible for most of it.

  2. Use a full-body character image

Head to toe on a plain background, or a character sheet, gives the model the face, the hair and the outfit in one go.

  3. Match length and shape, then test cheap

Set duration_seconds to your clip and aspect_ratio to its shape. Try 480p before paying for 1080p; a seed keeps runs comparable, not identical.

Real results from our test runs

  • Dance studio, photo reference

A woman in a black halter jumpsuit raises an arm, turns a full circle and smiles at the camera. Swapped with a full-body photo of a man in a white linen shirt, at 768p for five seconds: every beat of the routine is kept.

A man in a white shirt gets up, checks his hair in the mirror and walks out. The reference was an inked comic drawing; the new character is a live-action woman, and her reflection in the mirror follows her.

Before you recast anything

Use it only on footage and likenesses you are authorised to process: yourself, a performer with a signed release, or a synthetic person you generated. Test at 480p with the output length set to your clip, then re-run the keeper at a higher resolution.
