MiniMax H3 Lite text-to-video API generates 4–15 second clips with sound at 480p or 768p. Write the scene once, then rerun it with one change at a time to see which take works. Its lightweight design suits trying ideas and producing multiple variations.

All modes

Lite stops at 768p, so there is no 1080p or 2K here. A landscape clip came back at 864 x 480 at 480p. A prompt can run to 7,000 characters, and a clip lasts 4 to 15 whole seconds.

Image to video

Image to video has no aspect-ratio field because the clip takes the shape of the opening frame. A frame must measure 256 to 5,760 pixels per side, with a width-to-height ratio between 0.4 and 2.5.

Reference to video

Reference to video needs at least one image or video, since audio alone is refused. It takes up to 9 images, 3 video clips (2 to 15 seconds each, 15 seconds combined) and 3 audio clips; clips outside that range are stretched or trimmed. Choose one of the listed aspect ratios, as there is no automatic option.

What it does

Text to video

Start with a prompt

Lite is built for trying a scene quickly. Write who is in frame, what happens, where the camera goes and what we should hear, then run it at 480p. A 4-second clip came back in about 22 to 25 seconds in our runs, so you can read the result, change one thing in the prompt and go again. Change the lighting or the camera move between runs and compare the batch side by side.

Image to video

Animate an opening frame

Send a portrait, a product shot or a frame from an earlier clip and describe only what happens next. Lite keeps the shape of your frame and adds the motion, the camera and the sound. It suits quick tests of a still before you commit to a longer, sharper render. Add a closing frame if you want to pin where the move ends.

Reference to video

Guide it with references

Give it up to 9 images, 3 video clips and 3 audio clips and name each one in the prompt, for example the woman from Image 1 or the voice of Audio 1. It is a cheap way to check that a face, an outfit and a place sit together in one shot before you build a whole sequence around them. Audio needs at least one image or video next to it.

Batch variations

Many takes, one idea

Lite is the tier to reach for when you need volume: alternate openings for the same scene, several camera moves for one frame, or a dozen vertical 9:16 versions of a hook. Keep the prompt, change one detail, and pick the take worth rendering again at 768p. The per-second price is listed on this page, so a batch is easy to budget.

Where it fits

  • Fast drafts and storyboards

Try ten versions of a shot at 480p, keep the one that works, then render it again at 768p with the same prompt.

  • Batches of social variations

Vertical 9:16 clips with dialogue, music and effects in one pass, 4 to 15 seconds each, generated in bulk to see which hook lands.

  • Testing a still before a big render

Send a portrait or a product photo as the opening frame and check the motion cheaply before you commit to a longer clip.

  • Checking character consistency

Send portraits, outfits and places as references and see whether the same person holds across clips before planning a series.

Model reference

MiniMax H3 Lite API reference

MiniMax H3 Lite: the inexpensive way to try an idea

MiniMax describes H3 Lite as the lightweight variant of H3, aimed at lower cost, creative exploration and batch generation. On this page that turns into one habit: render many short, cheap attempts, then spend on the one you keep. Every clip still comes with sound, so even a draft arrives with dialogue and ambience you can judge.

What an attempt costs

Output is billed per second: $0.025 at 480p and $0.04 at 768p. A 4-second draft at 480p is $0.10, so ten variations of one shot cost $1.00. The same ten at 768p cost $1.60, and a full 15-second clip at 480p is $0.375.

A loop that works

  • Write the scene once and render it at 480p for 4 seconds.
  • Change one detail per run, such as the camera move, the light or the spoken line, and compare the batch.
  • Render the best take again at 768p with the same prompt, at the length the shot needs.

When to step up

Lite ends at 768p and cannot make 2K clips. If you have settled on 768p and make clips every day, MiniMax H3 HighSpeed is the tier built around that single setting. If a shot needs 2K or a clip longer than 15 seconds, MiniMax H3 is the one to open.

How to call the MiniMax H3 Lite API

  1. Put spoken lines in double quotes

Quote the line and name the speaker; one or two lines are plenty for a 5 to 8 second draft.

  2. Name references by type and position

On reference to video, call each file by its type and number: "the woman in Image 1", "the motion in Video 1", "the voice in Audio 1". Send audio together with at least one image or video.

  3. On image to video, describe only the next moment

The opening frame already shows the cast and the setting. Say what moves, how the camera travels and what we hear next, rather than re-describing the picture.

  4. Draft at 480p, finish at 768p

480p costs about 40% less per second. Iterate on the prompt at 480p, then render the keeper at 768p with the same prompt.

The short version

MiniMax H3 Lite is the tier for thinking out loud in video. It runs text, image and reference requests at 480p or 768p, adds sound to every clip, and returns a short clip in well under a minute in our runs. That makes it a good fit for drafts, storyboards and batches of variations where you will discard most takes. When one is worth keeping, render it again at 768p, or move to MiniMax H3 for 2K. Our tests found no softening of adult content, and SpicyAPI bills per second with no subscription. Only upload material you have the rights to use and the consent to show.
