Anime to Real Review: Illustrations Turned Into Photographs

Pick Anime to Real to see detailed key-visual art as a photograph with the same outfit and setting; flat, simplified styles give it less to work with.

  • Mild · The lightest prompts in the test

  • Moderate · Where filtered models start to refuse

  • Strong · Mid-scale; must be tested before a model is ranked

  • Very strong · Where most models start to hold back

  • Maximum · The top of the scale, scored in two halves: class A and class B

Anime to Real converts an anime frame, cartoon or illustration into a realistic photograph while keeping composition, outfits, colours and setting. It runs the Anything2Real LoRA (2601 A build) by lrzjason on Qwen-Image-Edit-2511 with the author's instruction, "change the picture 1 to realistic photograph". A short description of who and what is in the picture is optional but helps.

Key facts

  • Input: image_url (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB); optional prompt, aspect_ratio, seed, output_format.
  • Output: one image per request.
  • Speed: our runs took 16 to 21 seconds.
  • Price: flat per image; see the model page.

What we liked and what held it back

What we liked

  • Outfit and place carry over. A burgundy coat in a fern greenhouse, a peacoat on a log-cabin porch and a velvet dress in a library each came back as a photograph of the same outfit and place.
  • The LoRA looks more photographic. With the same seed, it gave more photographic skin, lighting and depth of field, while the base result looked closer to a 3D render.
  • Text and borders can be removed. "No text and no border" in the prompt removed a framed title and sign lettering in our runs.

What held it back

  • The person is newly drawn. The face is not a real individual; describe ages and adult proportions when the drawing style makes characters look young.
  • Lettering may carry over. Decorative borders and text from the drawing can reappear unless you ask them out.
  • Flat styles convert less well. Very simplified art gives the model less to work with; detailed key-visual art converts well.

What the results look like

The published examples are a silver-haired woman in a burgundy coat in a glass greenhouse and a bearded man in a charcoal peacoat on a cabin porch at dusk, each with a one-line description in the prompt. Both read as photographs with the original colours and framing. Across our test runs all converted; the ones with a border or sign text needed the "no text" line.

Prompts that worked

1. Greenhouse. From the published example.

text
a woman in her thirties with long silver hair in a burgundy wool coat in a glass greenhouse

2. Cabin porch. From the published example.

text
a man in his late thirties with a short dark beard and a charcoal peacoat on a log cabin porch in an autumn forest at dusk

Describe the person and place, and state an adult age when the style is youthful.

How far the content goes

We tested Anime to Real with an AI-generated image of a fictional adult at a partial and a toughest-check level. The partial level was delivered as written. At the toughest level the result was toned down once: a detail of the source image was carried over. We count that as a one-off softening, not a refusal.

Alternatives

  • Photographs into illustrations? Photo to Anime does the reverse conversion.
  • Then change the light? Relight re-lights the result from a description.
  • Then change the pose? Pose Changer copies a pose from a reference photo.
